This is definitely a topic that is very important if not critical to the bottom line. Also it's a topic where you can ask a question to 5 different people and get 5 different answers.
Good for the man that don't know and asks the question. Sorry for the man that thinks he knows and is wrong.
I think we should start a thread to cover care and maintenance. Just work together to put all we know into one thread. It would be an excellent learning tool.

Had a nice 4 1/2 days off but now it's time to go back to work. Headed out in the morning and planned myself through the weekend. My preload is ready now so that's a good omen

Reposted from another thread. Skip if you don't like ranting...lol

    14 hour clock rant.

I hate it..I hate it...I hate it!! But the government is smarter than me so what do I know?

So yesterday I approach Dallas at 1700 with 3 hours left on that #### clock. So since it would be royally stupid to drive through Dallas at that hour I shut it down at the yard...no big deal I can just start at 0300 and roll right through right??

Well here's the thing. I COULD do that....drive the 180 miles to my drop and be out of there by say 0700....but thing is my next load picks up at 1300 and it's a live load. So sure I can get there by 0830 and maybe somebody will be nice enough to load me early....but odds are I'm going to wait till my appointment and tick tick tick goes the clock.....so now I've sat around for say 6 hours and as I leave at 1500 I now only have 2 hours to drive because I've "worked" to hard and now I'm tired.

    Or.....option 2.

I can leave at 0600 and which puts me on schedule to arrive at 0900 say...but I'm in Dallas so let's say 1000 and even if I lose an hour doing my drop in still going to make my 90 minute deadhead in time for my 1300 appointment.

So I get to the receiver at 10:45!! Encounter the slowest guard in the history of the world and don't get out till noon...so now I'm late....at least they put me right in the door and I'm leaving now....just in time to get back to Dallas....for rush hour.....sigh

I'll get off my soapbox now

That's been my adjustment. That stupid clock in my face telling me when I have to get off the road. It's going to give me a hemoridge I swear it.

Losing precious time sitting in a dock at the moment. If they kick me off the property when I'm done then I won't be able to make on time delivery. Actually I could if I did an 8/2 split.

    Oh that's right.....company policy.

I ain't gonna lie. It does get frustrating when you inconvience yourself by sleeping at a shipper with no facilities and no way to get your morning cup of joe till you leave (coffee pot is at the house...######) so that you don't interrupt your break and provide on time service...and then 45 minutes after you appointment time which is when I am posting this....I still don't have a door.

Yeah yeah. It's trucking I get it.

I had to give up a nice $800 load that picks up Sunday because my load I was delivering today was loaded backwards on the trailer and had to drive 100 miles extra round trip to get unloaded. Instead of starting my day/clock once the first stop unloaded me and use only 2 hours I had to start it and drive to what should have been my second stop and waist almost 6 hours going back and forth and watching both stores trying to figure out how to unload a trailer that was 8" taller then there dock door with palettes loaded to the top of the trailer. (Yeah, that was a run on sentence. I'm tired and don't care, lol). On the plus side they have me an extra $200 for the issue and extra miles.
