Hi,
I have not posted here in years. Used to drive for CR England in 2007/08. I'll be straight up and say I quit because it was a hard job. I went back to my old job of driving a taxi in New York City. I accumalated allot of tickets and got stuck. The time is coming now for me to try to get back into the trucking business. I'm praying for more patience. In June I will have four moving violations in the past three years, in September I will have three, in November I will have two and by next April I will have none in the last three years. I don't drive because car insurance is too expensive for me and I think it's best I don't drive. My question is are there any companies that I can begin applying to now with five violations on my record? I need a traffic lawyer in case I get a ticket driving a truck. It easy to find a lawyer but a trucker can get a ticket in any state. Are there lawyers who deal with all states or would I have to get a lawyer from the state where the ticket was issued? I had about eight months experience driving and most of it was in three states, NY, NJ and PA. Only my training was OTR.
Thank You

First.... you think driving a taxi in NYC is easier than driving a semi?
Second.... you think it's best if you don't drive, but you want to get back into trucking?
Third.... there are a few companies that you can apply for, the trick will be finding the one who will hire you with the 5 violations and no recent experience... of course it will depend on exactly what the violations are too.
Fourth... are you already planning on racking up tickets in other states? I mean, really, your best bet is to just avoid gathering anymore. However, if you insist on getting them, you can join up with a prepaid legal service. You pay a monthly fee and they fight tickets for you in whatever state you got them in. TVC comes to mind. You see them in truckstops.lifesafight Thanks this. -
I am thinking you shouldn't waste your money on a CDL school.. you should spend it on a basic driving school..

1) Driving a taxi was easier because that is what I was doing for years before I got into trucking. It is always easier to go back to your bread and butter. I did not say that driving a cab was better than driving a truck. It was just easier in my situation. Not to mention that I wanted to be with my family more.
2) When I say don't drive I really mean a taxi in NYC. This is because the police target them. Some of them drive crazy in NYC so the police target/watch them as a whole. Everyone slips every now and then and if you add that to the cops watching you all the time it's a recipe for disaster. I now live in East Orange, NJ near Newark, NJ and I drove a cab here for a minute. It is the opposite here. They don't bother you at all. I don't drive now and that is a good thing because there is no way I can get a traffic ticket. My license has a chance to clean up. All of my tickets are from driving a cab except one. That one is a seat belt ticket I got in my personal car. I have no accidents or DUI/DWI. These are the tickets I got in the last five years:
04/06/2009 IMPROPER TURN
02/23/2009 IMPROPER TURN
11/07/2008 FAILURE TO WEAR SEAT BELT
09/01/2008 FAIL ALLOW PEDESTRIAN
06/06/2008 IMPROPER OPER HIGHWAY W/MARK LANES (I believe this was driving in a bus lane).
When I changed my license to NJ all of points were removed. I have no points on my current motor vehicle abstract.
3) I don't think anyone plans on racking up tickets but things happen. I want to have a contingency plan. Now that you mention it I do remember these pre-paid lawyer services

With that list of tickets it wasn't sarcasm.. that list will keep you out of a big rig quite some time. Going to a basic driving school may get them removed, most likely not, but is will show any potential employer you are at least trying to improve your driving skills. Furthermore, it is a whole lot cheaper.
Also keep in mind trucking company's got back into dmv records 5 years and if you do not tell them about your license in NY and they find out your still out on the street..lifesafight Thanks this. -

That sounds rough driving down there. Columbus circle seems like it would be a traffic vortex.
As for an alternative I wonder how Limousine drivers do?
Also consider looking at Expedite Vans. That gets you out on the road without driving a big 18 wheeler.lifesafight Thanks this. -
What is an Expedite Van?

Something like this..
They use tandems, as well, as expedited services in one ton cargo vans are also offered. The Challenger and lifesafight Thank this. -
Sir I will tell you a truth make of it what you will.
If feeling targeted by NYPD got you in trouble the new SMS and PSP programs will most likely garner the same results.
Nothing just happens while driving. Driver's make illegal decisions and get caught. Now a company will not tolerate many. Where before warnings carried no weight no they are the exact same as a conviction. It is a different ball game from when you tried before. If you found it hard then what has changed t make you think it will be easier now with stricter record keeping, tighter HOS and EOBR's on the horizon?
JMO stay with the Cabbie thing and clean up your record, keep it clean and maybe look for a local delivery van type job.lifesafight Thanks this.
