Hi guys let me start by saying you guys have all helped me out so much on this forum over the last couple of years. I do a lot more reading than I do commenting. I love the mix of experience on this forum. I've been an owner operator for 20 years in California and I'm ready to move now. I'm not looking for anybody's Trade Secrets just looking for a better place to live where you can actually make a living Trucking. I have a tri-axle dump and a three axle day cab tractor setup for pulling end dump. I'm not afraid to work but can't stand being undercut by idiots who want to work harder for cheaper. Do I need to move north to avoid working for free? I have 20 years experience and I'm not afraid of a little weather. Any suggestions on a good state to set up shop?
I need advice but im not green.Trying to leave California.

There's quite a bit of truck commerce here in Ohio, between the Toledo port, the farms, the fracking, the paving, etc etc etc .... and the cost of living is low in many rural areas.

Texas is worth a shot, great standard of living here in general. Economy is booming here, steady work in material moving. Texas has no personal income tax, and weather is pretty decent here.

Thank you.My bro and sis live in dallas area. They arent in trucking and i have been really thinking about it.Im scared because my line of work(construction) is completely overun by hispanics who love to undercut the rates.Even amongst themselves. So I'm afraid that Texas is very similar to Southern California as far as the that goes. I'm not trying to sound racist so please save all the crap responses about you don't understand what it's like to be blah blah blah. I just don't want to go from bad to worse. Anybody who lives in Dallas area have any insight to what I'm saying?

Highway and mass construction projects will still pay well, you can't be illegal and be a driver in Texas.

You can also make good money running contaminated sand/soil down to the cleaning facilities outside of Houston. Decent money running intermodal down here also

Please let me clarify. I'm not having a problem finding work here in California I'm having a problem with it being profitable or sustainable. I have two old trucks an 86 and a 92. Both Peterbilt and in very good condition. I'm not willing to buy a new truck just to have a subpar job and a payment. I'm currently using the low mileage exemption for carb but it's not like work is so wonderful that it's worth investing money into this non-business. All the routes to compliance are far too expensive to invest in a truck that is no longer worth the value it should be due to these regulations. Looking for easy business atmosphere not trying to get rich thanks guys.

My neighbor has two end dumps here on the west side of Phoenix.
He halls gravel and sand from a pit out west to a cement plant in Buckeye.
Yaz 93 Peterbilt daycamp and and 98 W900 sleeper truck.
He seems to be doing pretty good -
Main thing is to figure out where you want to live,or live in a 5th wheel and hit other spots, oilfield is all but dried up cutthroat crap now in oklahoma texas and the dakots, but construction is still good around those spots
