I am currently down to PTL (Paschall Truck Lines) and Swift as the only two organizations that will hire me. I have been leaning towards PTL. I graduate this Tuesday from CDL School and I plan on contacting my recruiter. I would just like to get opinions on which company would best fit for me. I don't mind driving automatic or manual, but I prefer manual if any. I am 23. My goal is to work for 3 years and save up at least $50,000 so I can pursue a dream of mine. I would rather live out of the tractor then motels and travel through many states, and possibly work a lot to have enough days of vacation to where I could relax for 3 or 4 days by the beach somewhere in CA or maybe some other interesting place. I was wondering what you think would be the best decision. I am looking for top pay and I don't care about crummy motels or crying to my mom about what tone of voice they had when they said something I don't agree with. I was hoping I could get a technical breakdown from you all about what the pay, motives, and incentives are really like working for PTL and if you think it would be possible to save that kind of money, or even more money, working for PTL for 3 years. Please let me know, I would greatly appreciate it!
P.S. As far as packing up, I was thinking about bringing a medium cozy blanket, pillow, laptop, my cell phone, clothes, a bag for dirty clothes, miscellaneous items like toothbrush, toothpaste, shampoo, body wash, detergent, etc. all in one big suitcase, or maybe those big backpacks. No need for a razor or shaving cream, I plan on growing it out for 3 years. Appropriate?
I appreciate any advice and accuracy that can be offered:smt071:smt072:smt066

There is no such thing as top pay when first starting. Other than that I dont know much about PTL but swift has a not so good rep. Should probably consider shaving while you are training. Remember, you are representing the company at all times, and your appearance does count. This time of year you might want a heavy blanket. My old trainer would have the AC on even when it was 50 outside.

What's the matter with some other companies? Can you go flatbed or get your endorsements and go tanker? You can make more than hauling dry van right out the gate.

but idk about home time, I wanna be out for as long as possible. Lady was saying I could hang on to the tractor too.

Go with Paschall, they have APU's.
Don't use a suitcase; use a duffle bag. The duffle bag is flexible & can force it into smaller spaces.
Take an oversize sleeping bag & pillow; small blanket is good if it's too hot to sleep inside the sleeping bag. -
