I want to attend a truck driving course at a local community college to obtain my class A CDL. The course is right around $2,500. Unfortunately, I had a small set back in some bills, and have a poor credit score. None of the government grants apply to me because they all require the FAFSA to be complete, in which I can't do, because, according to the government, I'm "dependent" and need parents information on it :biggrin_25510: . Scholarships wont work, because I only have a certain amount of time (August 17th is when the next course starts) and those are only awarded to so many people at once. I need a personal unsecured loan up to $2,500 and need to know if there are any financial institutions or banks that can offer this to me. Thanks a lot for your help!! :biggrin_25519:

    How come you're a dependent if you're 22?

For the FASFA you're considered dependent until the age of 24, however, there are a few exceptions that you may fall under where you can be independent before the age of 24. My girlfriend is 22 and she is considered independent due to being emancipated from her parents when she was 17.

It would only take a day or so, for you to become emancipated as well.

I've just went through this same thing with my son, who is 23. His mother was the critical tipping point that prevented him from receiving grant assistance due to her income and subsequent refusal to state her earnings. With her finally out of the picture, he has a vast pool to choose from. And starts school again next month as well.

It's simple if you take the time.

its the biggest crock of #### in the world

i was going to go to a trade school for deisel repair, had no money to do it......so i try to fill out FAFSA, im 20 years old have lived on my own for 2 years and have payed for every thing of my own since i was 16, but the goverment tells me i am dependent on my parents

and i wouldnt be able to get a loan cuz my dad made 65,000 as a truck driver last year(now laid off) and my mom made around 30k, they are divorced and werent gonna help me anyway (i dont expect them to either) but they said i had to put both of them down on the form

i cussed out so many people over that, its ########....i am NOT dependent, i havent been a dependent on anybodys taxes in years

so it basically kept me from going to college, or trade school
