i need clarification on some terms

    dispatcher? what a dispatcher does and why u will need one?

    difference between owner operator and driving your own truck for your own company . or is the same thing?

    dispatcher is the guy that tells u where to go to pick up ur load and where to unload

    ur thinking lease op and true owner op lease op u buy the fuel pay insurence truck payment etc etc while hauling another companies loadsunder they're name

    true o/o is someone who owns the truck pays all cost and on top of that books his own loads with direct freight from shippers and/or brokers

    Lease Operator: Renting the truck and signed on with a motor carrier. Sometimes you have the option to buy the truck at the end of the lease. Usually a bad deal for the driver.

    Owner Operator: Usually the same as above but owns the truck. Not so bad, if you find the right carrier to lease on with you can make decent money, and not have to worry about all of the hassle of being a fledged motor carrier (see below).

    Independent Owner Operator / Motor Carrier: Owns the equipment, or is leasing / buying it. Is a full fledged motor carrier, with the ability to hire other trucks on as lease operators, and / or hire company drivers. Secures his / her own freight to haul via direct shippers, spot market, etc. Pays much more in operating expenses, insurance, taxes, etc. If you don't have a good freight source it'd be hard to justify going this route. You do have more freedom behind the wheel, but will find that it's easy to become married to the company, and easy to go broke fast if you haven't planned for the unexpected.

    Dispatcher: In the conventional sense, this is an employee of the motor carrier, and is usually delegated with tasks such as driver management, trip planning, problem solving / support for the drivers regarding a variety of things, such as load problems, appointments, payroll advances, helping route the driver home for home time, pretty much anything the driver needs can be initially fielded by the dispatcher and then passed on to other departments for tasking. Sometimes a dispatcher is simply a telephone answerer and can manage minor issues during their shift, and the driver manager handles the rest. It varies from company to company. In a less common role, there are folks out there whom call themselves dispatchers, and offer to find independents freight loads, and sometimes offer bookkeeping services in a limited scope.
