I need help getting a number

    Is there anyone out there that can help me please. I bought a 2010 Kenworth T660, it broke down on me on the first day in the first hundred miles. Then it broke down 3 times in the first week and it broke down every week for 2 months. I paid 37000 for it put 5000 in it in the first month (if you count parts, labor, taxes, lost revenue, and tow's I have well over 50,000 in it) . The general manager of bloomington il Peterbuilt where I bought it refuses to do anything for me. It's either all my fault or my problem. He told me he had 30 trucks on the lot an he could put 5000 in each one of them and still find things to fix. Which told me I was on my own. I also e-mailed Peterbuilt headquarters in Denton Tx every night for 2 weeks and still no reply. No one cares how they are doing their customers. Can anyone help me and give me a number or e-mail address to someone that might care. They'd rather have great numbers on paper than to help a guy out ( or fix anything before they sell it they didn't fix anything they didn't even change the oil all they did was slap an inspection sticker on it and send it out) or have a return buyer. Any help you could give me would be appreciated, thank you.

    2 coolant lines, water pump, thermostat, altenator, bent tire rod end, 4 set of steer tires ,that's what I have fixed so far. It still needs a steering gear box, and it now has a really bad growl to the tranny. It may be an as is but when it goes down an I can longer afford to fix it or pay for it. Their gonna come take an that amounts to robbery the way I see it, maybe not the same but if you sell junk knowing your gonna get it back that's robbery, or fraud, or something.

    Hate to say it but a lot of those items you've replaced are to be expected on a nearly 7 year old truck. Bent tie rod and coolant lines I'd say should have been relatively easy to spot. The rest honestly are things that can #### the bed at any time and are usually not noticeable until its time for replacement.

    Ya I expect stuff like that to go bad but not from a dealership starting the first day off the lot, and not when your paying 37000, maybe if you bought it off joe blow in the backwoods and then I would have paid half that.

    As a Peterbilt dealership...this is one of your biggest problems. First off, you bought a 2010 Kenworth "as is". The dealership, whether Peterbilt, Kenworth, Freightliner, etc - has no obligation to help you. Used Trucks can be a nightmare.

    When you buy a used truck, you accept the risk. We (the dealership), aren't going to keep paying, or servicing your truck for free), when you buy it used - especially if its not our truck (ex: Kenworth truck and we're a Peterbilt dealership).

    On top of that. Peterbilt Motors Company is not going to care that your used Kenworth is breaking down - even if it was sold by a Peterbilt dealership. They're going to expect that you did your due diligence to ensure that it was in proper condition prior to you making your purchase.

    When you car shop, especially used - do you inspect the vehicle before hand? Ask for repair histories? You should. If you didn't, shame on you. If you did, and there was nothing alarming, that's unfortunate - however that's also not the dealerships fault.

    Unless you have some definitive proof that the dealership knowingly sold you a truck with issues (as in they knew it would have these issues), it is not their problem. You bought a used truck without warranty from a non-OEM dealership. Sadly, you are out of luck there.


    Edit: Also "4 set of steer tires" - Peterbilt does not warranty tires. They are a wear item. Tires wear out and the customer replaces them. You should have checked the tires and ensured they were OK and if not negotiated a better price, or negotiated them to be replaced as part of the purchase. Peterbilt would NEVER pay for that under warranty unless they were damaged as part of another failure. I don't do warranty for Kenworth, but I can almost guarantee that Kenworth is the same. Wear items are not warrantable.

    Yea so you Didnt spend any money to have it looked at? You trusted a dealer to Be honest about a Used truck?

    I bought a used pickup truck off a dealership once. I looked it over top to bottom. No leaks or bent/broken parts. Drove straight, everything looked good. Less than a week later the tranny #### the bed and a u-joint failed. The dealer was nice enough to cover the cost of parts to repair the transmission. I had to pay labour. Over the next 14 months the pickup truck required an entire front end replacement, a trans cooler, water pump, fan clutch, a couple oil seals, electrical repairs, posi-trac rebuild, transmission mounts, exhaust and a battery. Point is it was a used vehicle sold as is. The dealer had no way of knowing what was going to fail. They didn't even have to cover part of the transmission bill. They did that in good faith. Its not the dealers job to provide free repairs to a vehicle for life. It doesn't matter where you bought it from. If its got tires, tracks or ###s its gonna be a pain in the rear.
