I won't be running my business into the ground. I do not take part in or condone what it is we are talking about. Just playing the devils advocate. I have an agent who has an account with a very big company that ships alot of product. For this customer we are more or less a backup, when things are good we see a considerable amount of freight, when things are slow...... not so much. Was talking with the agent about this customer last week, he said maybe we should drop our rates a little bit so we can get more loads. My reply to him was lets leave them where they are, and sell them better service than anyone of their other trucking companys do. Now I have to be honest, there is part of me that says lets cut the rate some and hog as much of this as we can. Because this particular freight is really all I wanna haul.
Come on OZR, you can't be that naive can you??? I've had LS agents try to pump me for info to back solicit other LS agents! As far as the grumman asking why his tender wasn't taken and a higher priced tender was. In my mind that wasn't back solicitation. Both tenders were in before he took the load, and his was rejected. Usually this situation means the transportation person is either taking a bribe or kickback, or at the very least is very lazy.
By my company, I mean my agency. We're indepenent contractors and have our own company. As far as what you're saying...it makes more sense the way you said it and I apologize if I came off a little hot. The idea of back solicitation just eats me up.
I have not looked at this for a day or two. I think its important to point out as far as the military loads go...... Its my money.... yours too! It should be the best rate. Back door? cheating? What ever. Its my own money. I give super low rates on everything I do and always have. No one beats my crane rates. I dont think anyone beats my wrecker rates. And soon will be set with menlo and sddc. I dont think five loads from five mercer agents over two years makes me a bad guy for looking for mil work. If it was a customer that supply's the mil and I got THAT load I would NOT back door them........ I dont have the time to read all this.... how did it start?
