I've got a cell phone but it's real basic. I have an unlimited minutes deal with CellularSouth but it's been my experience that the service is not fantastic outside of Dixie. What's a dependable "nationwide" service? I've never owned a laptop so I'm wide open for suggestions there. Thanks, Oldnew...![]()
I need recommendations for "OTR-friendly" cell phone and laptop/notebook!

The laptop is something that you just have to consider something personal...how much memory you want, how big of a hard drive, etc. That all depends on what you like to do on a computer.
If you like to watch downloaded movies, play video games, etc. you will want something with a GOOD graphics card, as well as a LOT of memory and hard drive space.
To go with your laptop, the air card (carrier) you choose is important. None of the carriers offer unlimited usage anymore, so you will want a 5 gig air card.
We recently switched from Sprint, to Verizon. Verizon seems to have a BIT more coverage, and is a LITTLE less expensive than Sprint.
That's all the advice I know to give...hopefully, someone else with more knowledge can give you some more and better info.

I have a basic prepaid AT&T it works great on the east half except a few spots in the higher mountains. Out west is another story, dont get much service out in the great plains away from the major cities. I dont run alot out west either. But, like i said, it is prepaid so I am not sure if the coverage area is the same as a monthly bill from AT&T.

I've been with Verizon for 9 years straight. Traveled all over the country and never had any problems. A grown a daughter in Illinois and a son in Colorado we never have any problems getting or receiving calls.
Recently upgraded the phone and purchased an HP netbook with a buit in 5 gig air card from them. With the rebates the netbook ended up costing me $65.00 ........ the monthly fee on the air card is like $69.00.
Our monthly bill for everything runs around $200.00 for 4 phones with unlimited nationwide long distance (mine, mama's, one each for two daughters still in school) unlimited text, 2000 minutes (unlimited Verizon to Verizon) and, the netbook air card.
I don't think that we'll be changining providers.

I don't know if they'll have the same deal in your neck of the woods.... but if they don't I'd check on line with Verizon 1st.
