I wonder if it was an air ride truck and he broke a torsion arm or hanger? His English isn't spectacular so maybe he is calling it a shackle when we know it by another name?
-
I can't ever remember seeing a "shackle" on a drive axle of any twin screw truck..spring or air ride. Steering axle yes.....but twin screw?
Toomanybikes Thanks this. -
Hendrickson E4 had shackles.

thanks haycarter, I've never seen it but then I'm a young man.. I wasnt thinking of equalizer hangers but in term of a shackle on the opposite end of the spring like on a steering axle. Blonde moment. What is the rating on that E4?

I'd hazard a Guess & say every Truck you've ever driven has had shackles on the Steer axle...
You can get an air ride Front end, & Kenworth make a heavy duty "slipper" front end here In Australia But doubt if any saw service in the U.S.A. -
I caught the part about shackles too but I let it lay....... I assume he meant U-bolts. Who knows?Last edited: Aug 27, 2016
Ben77, MJ1657, Toomanybikes and 1 other person Thank this. -
I'm pretty sure that the E380 is 38,000lbs & the E400 is 40,000lbs..
But it was nearly 30 yrs ago & I'm not as good as I used to Be...LOL -
This is a difficult english problem.
I'll have to consider how a driver can fail to hold a truck to a stop in a accident situation and still end up laying it over or worse, rolling onto the roof.
Usually if you lay a rig down or roll it it's going to be preventable against you unless it is something like a absolute act of god with a 8.0 quake or something. -
