Has anyone told that guy these bad inspections hurt the drivers? I'm not sure I believe this because he doesn't sound to well informed.

I don't get stopped much, but when I do I always ask them to get their creepers out and inspect me so I can get my bonus. They usually laugh, check the swindle sheets and send me down the road.

A few years ago before CSA when my Companys Safersys score was low, when i crossed a scale that was slow at the time id go in and tell the Officer that our score was low and that i was trying to help them out. Id ask them to do a level 2 on me and was never turned down.

That said.... attitude and a good explanation of circumstances goes a long way with most LEOs. I always know that my tractor is good, looked over the trailer pretty well and made sure that my paperwork couldnt be questioned before i asked.

Most of the issues were logbook violations. But I agree with you regarding this being the O/P's responsibility. This is the cost of hiring cheap, poorly trained drivers who don't know how to log properly.

Sounds like you might want to think about having qc's installed in your trucks.

Windsmith, I thought number of drivers did not affect HOS. I thought HOS was only affected by number of relevant inspections. Please correct me if I am wrong. But just to be safe I did go in and update all that. It would still be nice to know in advance if it might help though.

Inspections are always Wtf moments. You could roll thru in a brand new truck and trailer, fresh off the lot and DOT would decide to do a level 1.

Meanwhile. Vladimir express from Chicago blows by in some ran down used CR England truck, bald tires all around, and Boris at the wheel who has no idea what a log book is..DOT doesn't even bat an eye towards him. Such a shame.

I don't know for sure, and from what I've gathered, nobody really knows for sure how that data affects percentile rank. I'm with you in wanting to know for sure how that works.

Check out this article and pay particular attention to the 'peer group' phrases. I know it's a bit dated, but I don't think that the peer group theory has changed since it was written. The data that you file with DOT affects which other carriers are in your peer group, which in turn affects your percentile rank.

    Alf24 Thanks this.
