I'm a licensed class b driver looking to add a passenger endorsement to his license. In order to get the endorsement I'll have to do another pre-trip inspection, skills test, and road test with a bus. I've never driven a bus and I was wondering on how I could get some practice before actually taking my test. I've handled vehicles similar in size to a bus, but it's still something foreign to me. Is there a way to learn without going through some kind of employer provided training program? Do traditional cdl schools provide bus training? I'm not looking for a course or extensive training program. I just need an hour or so to practice my backing, turning, paralell parking, etc. What do you guys think? I'm in Indiana by the way.

Why do you want a passenger endorsement? If you are going to work driving a bus, they should help you get the endorsement. I had a Class A but drove a school bus for 3 months because wanted to drive a city bus and I needed a bus to take the endorsement test. At the time, the city bus company was not accepting applications from anyone without a passenger endorsement. The only reason I got the endorsement was to work driving the city bus. Unless you have a job in mind, why bother? Even if you find a bus to practice, you'll still need a bus to take the test.

If you're looking to drive for tour bus outfits, I'd think they would require a minimum of 1 year regional or OTR class A experience and perhaps other "people skills experience". And furthermore, it would seem once you have this, they would probably offer assistance to get the endorsement if you want to work for them and they need you. There are plenty of them out there so I'd think there has to be some path (besides school bus) to get into that line of work.
