I never worked for 'em, but I know about 'em.

Ah, what would the Salt Lake City trucking scene be without the England family? Talk about a bunch of tightwads. The owners of C.R. England take the cake when it comes to being stingy. I lived in Salt Lake City for about 8 years, and I believe in all that time, there were only about 8 days that C.R. England's help-wanted ad wasn't in the Salt Lake Tribune newspaper. And these were all x-mas days, so they had a "good" excuse.

I never worked for these folks, but I know plenty of people who did at one time or another. All their stories are the same--C.R. England will rip you a new one. There are testimonials all over the web about how drivers signed on to CRE's "lease-operator" program only to lose everything sooner or later. Most of the time that was "sooner".

One of the most talked about stories around the SLC trucking world is the story of how a driver/trainer at CRE once told his students they "couldn't make money" if they drove legally. CRE fired the guy, and he then sued their #####. He lost his case in Salt Lake, but appealed to Denver's superior court. I never found out what happened with that case.

There is also the famous story of the guy who got into CRE's lease program and drove 25,000+ miles and made ZERO. He lost pretty much everything he owned--house, car, even wife. His is a great story. Be sure to check it out on the web. It's out there somewhere.

Yeah, I would place C.R. England not at the bottom of the barrel, but below the barrel when it comes to trucking companies. NEVER work for CRE. Drop dead first.

I once went to Hunt's Point Market. I remember seeing at least 5 CRE trucks there, so I know England delivers to the Bronx. Nice place. It's GOOD to go to Hunt's Point once in your life. Every driver should make that trip. Once is all most will want to go. But there is an advantage to going there. While you're there, you can look around at the other rigs and remember their names. Your memory will serve you well later if you're looking for a new company to work for. And you will have to rely on memory, as most of those companies' recruiters will spew the ol' "We NEVER go to Hunt's Point" at you if you call them up asking about them. Of course if you've been to HPM and were a careful observer like you should have been, you can then call these recruiters to task on their lies.

i've been to the bronx with england and a freightliner classic pulling a 53' refer full of meat. Talk about stress. England doesn't care who they send, where with their equipment. Even after I leased from them they tried to send me back to the bronx and I refused, they were pissed. Best thing I ever did was learn the bad side of the business from CR England.I appreciate the learning experience I had with them, and glad I quit and eventually became a real owner operator not a lease operator.

That's true. It takes a bad company to appreciate a good one.

I went to HMP in 98 pulling a 48 footer and nearly couldn't get it backed in. That must be one of the tightest places in the country. I've heard the Philly market is even tighter, though. And I imagine if one goes to that market, he'll see plenty of CRE trucks, 53' trailers and all, in there making deliveries.

These people are idiots for sending ultra-long trucks into NYC.

I was a Lease Operator for C.R.England a few years ago.I MADE IT,no problems with England. The biggest problem people have is Refusing loads, It pisses off your DM greatly because they have you prebooked from there. So YOU screw up the whole thing then they look at you as un trustworthy and load around you.Yes it maybe a short 900 mile two stopper, BUT the next load maybe 2000 miles.NEVER refuse a load if your a Lease-Operator.You want your dispatcher to think of you as a friend.(Kiss Butt ?,YUP) You'll get the good loads with plenty of miles. Learn to play the game!

When I pulled reefer I went to hunters point several times and never ever had a problem backing in the holes, that was b/c the purple unicorns magically picked my truck up and slid it right in. When you get there for the first time just remeber big men dont cry.
