It's an everyday, multiple occurrence on 5 and 40. Especially 5.

That just goes to show that swift still has not hired all the idiots that have a CDL. Plenty left at other companies(fry miller).

It's everywhere man. You want to drive around courteous drivers, for the most part, it's driving overnight and/or taking highways.

I've noticed that I don't really get slow passed on highway systems. That's just an interstate thing... for the most part. I am sure a few exceptions exist.

Lots of reasons. I could write a book on that subject.

As a cabinet dealer and one-man-remodeling show, it’s wearing me down. I can do it for a few more years, but not until retirement. My last job was textured melamine. 3/4” thick. Twice as heavy as all-wood cabinets. Eight foot tall pantries and linens too. They all filled a 26’ uhaul van. By the time I got them down off the 53’ dry van, loaded them into the uhaul, and unloaded them at the customer’s home, I was spent.

Other reasons: developers don’t pay jack-squat. Probably 1000 homes being built within a 10 mile radius of me, but they want the cabinets installed in one day for about a third of what I’d quote the job for, if I were just installing for them. Forget about selling cabinets to them. I couldn’t sell them at my dealer cost and even come close to being cheap enough.

New construction in general isn’t worth it anymore. You carry your heavy tools across 30 yards of deep beach sand, multiple round trips, up a flight of scary, makeshift stairs only to find a mound of construction debris, stacks of drywall and other crap piled right where the cabinets are supposed to go, then you stand around for half the day waiting for the superintendent to move the crap, and for the cabinet supplier to deliver the cabinets.

There are two or three trim carpenters already set up that you have to dance with. The Russian trim carpenter doesn’t have a dust collection bag on his miter saw, so every time he makes a cut, you get a face full of sawdust. You need this cabinet, so you have to move a dozen other cabinets to get to it because they’re all piled into the same space that the supe just cleared out. Takes you twice as long as it should if you had room to work.

The heat index is 108F, there’s no breeze, and you know you’re being paid 2005 wages because you’ve been in the business for 25 years.

Jesus! Looks like I wrote a book after all.

What gets me is the dragonflies, dead slow up hills and go as fast as gravity can pull em down. Eventually i get tired of em and leave em in the dust

The stupidest part is they don't think they are wrong for doing that, they think they are being safe drivers.

This is my opinion about driving a governed truck. My current truck is governed at 68, and my first truck was 63.

Sometimes it takes me a bit of time to pass. Everyone has to wait sometimes, so I don't mind holding up traffic for a period of time in order to get around. The thing is, there are situations where I think I can pass in a reasonable amount of time, but it turns out that I cannot because of various reasons. In that case, I have to slow down and back off and get back in the right lane behind the rig I was trying to pass.

Psychologically, I believe it is very difficult for most people to back off once they have initiated a pass. Most drivers cannot go back to where they came from once they pull out to pass. Its like we think we are showing weakness or backing down or something. I feel that way too, but fortunately I don't really give a #### because whoever is witnessing what I'm doing doesn't care about me and most likely will have forgotten all about the incident within the next 10 minutes. I hate riding next to other rigs for extended periods of time, that #### sucks. And if no one ever backs down, where does that get us, exactly? Believe me, there are times when I'm not backing down no matter what. But usually not when I'm doing my job driving a CMV.

Thank you for the great response !!
I worked construction for a couple months , I could not handle it. I'm a severe asthmatic and all the dust was killing me. Welcome to the trucking industry !!! It's not bad here , not bad here at all. I've enjoyed it for about 20 years on and off. The job to me is pretty easy it's the all around lifestyle that can be tuff and the shock of the lifestyle then beat most people. I wish you all the luck in the world my friend.
