I am from florida I know there are lease to own oppurtunitys. Trucking companies are always looking for owner operators. I would go to Arrow trucking in Brandon, There is a guy named Ron only deal with him, He has all kinds of ways to get you in a truck. Also he knows companies That might hire you on as an owner operator Landstar for example. I do know know your full position financially. But if you want to send me a private message i am sure i can help you out. As i am an owner operator to. Or if you are willing to send me your phone # i could always talk instead of typing back and forth. Also you might have to drive for a company for a short period of time. As i do not know if you are working. Also cypress trucking is always looking for flatbed drivers and they are based out of Tampa. Good Luck!! God Bless
I really need help and advice with the hopes of making Trucking my Final Career!!

The truth is no one here can tell you one way or another. The companies that do the hiring ARE the only people that can tell you. There are some trucking sites on the computer that give their requirements and some say no felonies or no felonies within 10 years and so on. The only advice I can give you is go to the companies that you WANT to work for and ask them. Do that before you even start school. That way you'll have your own list and can make the decision yourself. When you go to school there will be recruiters that will tell you the only way into this business is by the mega carriers. That's just bull and not the standard. Find a company that fits your needs and not someone else. Every one says you'll have to do your time but you do not have to do it and hate it too. We liked nothing more than a driver coming in and asking what it takes to work for us. And just remember that not all companies advertise for drivers. Some are decent companies and drivers want to work there. Find a good company for you with the thought of retiring from there. Good luck.
Tonythetruckerdude, mje and Theo222 Thank this. -
17 yrs is a long time ago.Highly unlikely companies will turn you away.
mje, Theo222 and bahamajohn98 Thank this. -
The WIA program in Ohio is income based. As long as you were laid off, you can get the funds. I was just denied because I'm not laid off, but I am looking to start driving as well. I have been doing a lot of searching, no only for the companies, but also reviews and forums such as this to see if it will be a good fit for me. Good luck!!

Thank you Tony, and to answer your question, No, I'am not on any medications. Haven't been on any meds for many years. Don't need them, I mentally and physically take care of myself as best as possible with the occasional Advil. ..... I will check out the local CC's and see if they offer the CDL training. Thank you very much for your advice.

Thank you GasHauler, and while I was at work today, what you said about going to each company FIRST, is what I thought about. I will definetly do that so I can just get it out there, see what they have to say and take it from there. Thanks a lot and I hope to be out there on the road with you all keeping the Country turning while our wheels are rollin'.

Hey Big Lou, Thank you Brother for your input, and I will message you my number when I figure this site out, LOL, .....I for sure 'am not ready to get into a Lease. I for sure want to get some good training and plenty of Miles under my belt before I commit to that. And yes, right now I have a full time management job for just about 9 years now. But Trucking is what lights my fire. Plus the Money I know would be much better. I just have to get my foot in the door somewhere and prove my dedication. ............I'll send you that message with my number. THANK YOU!!!

Hey rda2580, Thank you for your time and advice. Yes, I do realize I won't be around on a moments notice, but that will be o.k. I want to be on the road, dedicate myself to whomever my employer is, and make as much money as possible. I do have a very close friend who I have talked to about this and he is quite interested in going in on this together and becoming Company Team Drivers. Or Solo and Train other people down the road. Not quite sure which would be best. I will be checking out programs for assistance in getting into a School as you all have suggested. And about the 'Nightmarishstories', you are right, I have read so many!!! Another reason I was so confused on where to start. That is why I came here to get advice from the Guys and Gals workin' in the Trenches with your boots on the ground. And it is very much appreciated!!!
