Glad to help, Theo222. Good luck to you. Keep us informed.Theo222 Thanks this. -
Theo, You sound like we got you headed in the right direction, I'm Glad mom was able to move on past the passing of your Dad, I think you will do well in this industry, You will bring some care and concern for your fellow truck driver that is being lost to these mega carriers that don't care at all about anything except getting the load where it goes. Good Luck, ask anything you would like, We are here for you, These posters post all over the place in here answering these types of questions. Be Well.
Theo222 Thanks this. -
Theo222,
My friend here is a quote to live by:
The greatest achievements of men, were at first, nothing but dreams of the minds of men who knew that dreams are the seedlings of all achievements. A burning desire, to be and to do, is the starting point, from which the dreamer must take off
Cherish your visions and your dreams as they are the children of your soul, the blueprints of your ultimate achievements.
Do not wait; the time will never be "just right." Start where you stand, and work with whatever tools you may have at your command, and better tools will be found as you go along.

Willis Shaw Express advertises a free tuition CDL training program in Florida. Their headquarters is in Auburndale, and their CDL training may be in a different location in Florida. Check their website and apply online.
CRST will pay for CDL school, with an 8 month commitment after graduation. Some on this forum blast CRST, but if money is tight, do what you have to do to get started; it's an 8 month commitment, not a lifetime commitment.
JBS Carriers pays for Roadmaster CDL school, but you must pay them back with payroll deduction within 12 months. That could mean money will be tight for your first 12 months.
Swift will probably hire you for CDL training.
The felony won't hurt you since it's so old. I wouldn't mention any medication you took way back then; "don't ask-don't tell." -
Willis Shaw closed their school years ago.
They will hook you up with an independent school if you want.
However,
Shaw pays squat........ -
Well the one thing you may want to focus on also is your d.o.t. card. Depending on what your ailment is you may have a problem getting one. You hadnt mentioned what your ailment is and if youre governing it with otc drugs then it may be a problem with the doctor as they are becoming more and more squeamish about handing out cards because of their liability insurance.

ok, Im new to the thread, but heres a thought. getting started anywhere is tough. CR E, Swift just to name a few dont pay anything. but they will train you. I took the old road years ago and joined the army after school when I was 17. 6 years later I got out and started with a pickup hauling bales of card board . worked my way up to a flat bed trailer. the first HOT SHOT for me. later I was flatbeding . but I started small.
Now I make top pay as a company driver. I wont go into how much. but its great money. what happened when we were kids is the past and we learned from it. look into getting on as a RV transport driver, you need a 3/4 ton truck, the pays ok. better then swift. ! and you chose where you go. Ive done it for 3 1/2 years and never cleared less then 45,000 a years.
