Prime has an excilent training program and you'll do good as far as training pay and the CDL program is by far the best but you have to sign a one year contract in which once you finish training you can go team or solo either lease or company but once your get your own truck the money isn't worth a ####. Good company for the most part but the miles just aren't there.
I really want to be a trucker.

Trucking will always have its ups and downs, and right now it is in an economic downturn. It will not be this way forever, believe it or not their are still drivers out there making a good living. Most of those drivers have been in it awhile and know how to weather the storm.
There have been many people turning to trucking lately because they have been laid off or something along those lines. Many are getting into the industry for all the wrong reasons.
If this is something you really want and you are not doing it because of the reasons metioned or you think it is a way to make some "easy" money then pursue your dream.
Just be warned every company out there is going through some major changes to keep their business afloat. Cutting pay, miles, benefits, Ect.... You will read good and bad on here about almost every company imaginable.
Not every company is going to make every driver happy, you need to do your research and find what best fits you needs and what things you are willing to compromise on...ie, home time, pay, equipment, miles.
Just know it will not be easy right now starting out. If you can weather the down turn, keep your cdl clean, work hard, and get some experience many doors will open in the future for you.
This industry will bounce back and companies will be scrambling again looking for good drivers.
Good Luck -

I'm in the same boat as Fender, I guess. I'm starting training with Stevens in Dallas on Monday. Truckin has always been a dream, just never had the cahonies to sign up til now. (I've never been one with good timing) Stevens has said all the right things...8 wks of training, then 3000 miles/wk after that. But why do I get the feeling that I need to pack the vaseline?

I wish you the best of luck, take action and follow you desires!!
