Think I'll decline, the plaintiffs will receive pennies, the lawyer group representing them will receive hundreds of thousands.
The complaints are outlined here www.truckingclassaction.com
Too be honest, May Trucking never did me any harm. I learned a lot there, earned a decent wage, made some good friends and moved on.
I attended orientation for 3 days in 2009. They put me up in a nice hotel, fed me during my stay, then shortly thereafter I went on a trainer truck for 9 days learning the procedures and policies of the company and how to operate the mobile communications. They paid me 50 bucks a day. It never even dawned on me that I should of filed a class-action lawsuit against them for it, I was just happy for a job and to get my feet wet in an industry I really have come to love and appreciate over these past 4 years![]()
I received an invitation to join a class action suit against May...

Well Partner, The attorneys will get their share, But besides a check for you this will allow the courts to nail May for something that they should not have done, Allow me to share with you a class action Suit I was involved in or that I was found to be a party to, I applied to many different restaurants while I was in the summer of my Senior year, Between my junior and Senior years, I applied to a Red lobster where I thought I could clear tables and wash dishes, This would have been my first job after my paper route, back in the day, I filled out the application I called the manager back checking on my status of my application as I had just completed the Job Corps Job Training at school, I didn't get the job and so I moved on School started and away I went in another direction. About 6 months into my senior year of high School I received a mail card stating i'm sure the same thing mentioned on your invitation, It said if you want to be a part of this class action then return the card if not, Have a nice life, i thought what the heck, I filled it out and about the end of my Senior year I received a check for $850.00 just for going into this place and filling out an application, Your thought that the attorneys are going to get a chunk of it is yes they are paid well for what they do, but they have a bunch of expenses as well, I would say don't bother with what thehy get out of it, run with it and take what you can get out of them. Good Luck.
silenteagle and pattyj Thank this. -
I wouldn't let attorneys fees be the reason not to join a class action suit. If you don't think they deserve it that's different.

The money is the last thing I would have on my mind.I would love taking a company to court just for the satisfaction.Wish more drivers would follow their heart and do what they know is the right thing rather then jumping ship.

Kindaa llike the one Vietnam Vets won on Agent Orange. The Va will look at your skin, if you can prove the skin disease was caused by Agent Orange or you children have a birth defect, you could get 800-900 dollars. Gotta hate lawyers like I do.

Maybe so Scooter but consider this, many carriers have shafted many applicants / drivers over the years. This isn't arbitrary either. Somebody presented quality evidence of wrong doing for the class to be certified and the suit to go forward. The way to certainly correct carrier behavior is to hit them square in the arse pocket.
Fill out the card and do your part. If you don't want the ( any ) money then give it to charity but let the suit go forward and correct carrier behavior for those that may come after you.

Nope, won't do it. Besides, I don't like to burn my bridges. Never know when I might need to cross back over back to the other side
-
Because, in effect, that is exactly what you're doing.
I've also worked with employees that "don't want to burn their bridges". In fact, each one so much so, that this would cause them to not report mechanical/equipment problems on their DVIR, not complain about DOT regs being violated, and basically helping the company run an unsafe operation.
I could easily see you doing them same, given your "don't burn bridges" importance.chalupa, luvtotruck and Joetro Thank this. -
