If NO ONE moved freight for cheap rates, all the shippers would pay more since it couldn't be moved cheap any more. Simple. If you don't haul it is sits. then shippers pay more to get it moved. Why under bid and not just haul it for near the same rate? Just give better service?
To get rid of the EPA /CARB is fairly easy. Just don't go to CA or NY ...

Still a lot of states to make money inn and out of. No one gets hurt and maybe a positive statement is made. But the best way is to NOT be there when the loads are ready to go. . Let the powers to be know that finally truckers have grown a backbone and can believe it or not work together for a change and actually band together for a common cause and stand up instead of kneeling. It worked in the 70's & 80's and it can work today. All it takes is to believe in what your doing, Be willing to take action and then do it. Since a majority are not willing to do that, Write letters to your elected officials and voice your feelings. As long as some are wiling to haul for starvation wages, won't do anything positive to correct the situation they are the problem.

i have already boycotted the cheap shippers brokers and several states that get really stupid. When is everyone else going to join in. I will not boycott my good shippers to help others that will not boycott the bad actors.

after reading some responses here, I have to come to realize I have been doing things wrong. My truck and trailer are paid for so instead of using my hard earned money to buy that trailer I wanted, Im going to lower my rates , make less money and use the trailer money to help me get by since ill be making a lot less.

instead of new tires, ill only buy used, when the truck needs repairs, I just wont do them so I can lower op costs. when my truck and trailer need to be replaced, Im sure all my friends at the brokerage firms will return the favor.

to be able to lower my rates even more, Ill have to explain to my daughters, no more toys, no more eating out , they have to understand that we have to barely get by so that daddy can work more for less.

There is a lot of talk about illegal immigrants driving trucks. Most hear the word "Illegal immigrant" and think Mexican. There are many many thousands of illegals that noone really sees. They look a lot like you and me , but are from Lithuania, Russia, Serbia and other eastern countries. Most come in through Canada and no issues. They just do not protest nor demand welfare, American jobs, free medical ,rent subsidy, or the right to vote. Keeping a Low profile until the House passes amnesty for illegals then here they come. It will more than double the number of illegals the talking heads in DC use for figures.

I really don't know how an illegal immigrant could get away with running a truck here in the states.
It's pretty hard already as a legal citizen!

Ideology like this is just plain foolishness. I cannot fathom how anyone would move from (using your examples for the sake of discussion) MD to KY and save $6080 a year in property taxes and say with a clear conscience, "Ha, now I can lower my rates even farther, now that it doesn't cost me as much to live."

It must be the entrepreneurial fire that burns within me, but I would take that savings of $6080 a year and invest it back into my business, so that it could earn me more money. With your way of thinking you are taking that savings and passing it along to some broker or shipper, WHY? Because in doing so it will not yield you any positive financial gains, and isn't that the whole purpose of being in this business in the first place?

So I ask, please help me understand how this is smart business.

Oscar, I think he was adding to the point some of us were making as to how it's more expensive to operate a business and live in some areas / states vs others.
You are right though, some folks think because they can operate for peanuts that they should work for peanuts.
Someone posted about it earlier, "operating a business for drivers wages".

It really don't or wouldn't change anything if I moved to another state first off I run this ship as a company they have a checking account than I have mine they don't pay my electric bill, fuel in my personal truck the food I buy or taxas on my house that comes out of my earned income.
