I've only seen one that I can remember. He was sitting on the side of the interstate with a flat.

That is one of the disadvantadges of not being able to roll with the other 7 drive tires.

Another problem can be that a nearby dealer may not have any in stock since they aren't that common, causing you to wait longer than usual over a tire if you're not close to a service center.

It's been awhile since I have had time to do an update so this one may be lengthy.

All is still very good and enjoyable at Averitt. I am averaging around 2400 miles per week of late. Some good runs to Texas and back don't hurt my feelings at all. I am camped out at Baytown, TX with a Houston delivery in the morning. Had a few issues with my APU. The shop at the Chattanooga yard got it fixed as soon as the parts came in, so I was idling a bunch for a week or so. Now it's working fine.

I was interviewed for our web newsletter, part of a feature on new drivers they do from time to time. My grandson got a kick out of me being featured and printed off some copies to show to his friends at school. Today I get a message from my Fleet Manager to call a lady in Cookeville because they want me to write an editorial for our printed newsletter. Call me Mr. Popularity.

Yesterday I ran into a guy I went to orientation with and he is loving Averitt as well. He is getting good miles and enjoying how he is treated by all the other Averitt associates. Last week up in Kentucky I saw another guy who did orientation with me and he is happy as a pig in slop as well.

Last week was especially nice. Got a load to Dallas, and requested a load to Houston so I could visit my God children. Got an LTL load from Dallas to Houston about ten minutes later. I spent about 10 hours with my nephew, his wife and all five God kids. It was a blast. Then I got an LTL load to New Orleans, and from there a load to Hickory, NC that took me home for the weekend. Got in at 8 AM on Friday and didn't have to leave out until 5 AM on Monday. How cool is that.

Time for bed. Hope all is good and you are getting good miles.

When you guys say you got an LTL load thrown at you what does that mean?? Is that multiple stops, city stops or night runs or what?? I'm assuming it just means multiple stops.

LTL is linehaul, terminal to terminal freight.

Hey Guys, if a driver stays out 2 weeks with Averitt, how much hometime do you get?

A lot of the times Truckload will get a LTL load to get them home or get them on the way towards home if nothing is available and they are just sitting. When you get a ltl you don't actually take the freight to the customer you only take the load from one terminal to another terminal and hopefully its to your home terminal or close. For example here at my terminal if we have 4 shuttle loads to go out and one has mostly all Virgina freight in the trailer we will give it to a truckload guy since we only have 3 shuttle guys. Chances of you being out for more than a week is a very low chance probably never.

Btw, Is Conway truckload a completely different company than the LTL side? I know with Averitt the LTL and TL work close together to make operations to run as smooth as possible.

averitt's recruiting ads say "driver option to stay out two weeks". thought that would be a good luxury to have.

they are two different companys. i think c-way T/L pulls doubles and linehaul freight from time to time. but not as much as you guys pull ltl.

That's the way Estes operates. It's by choice if one desires to stay out longer than 5 days. Ltl is the way to go. Even the minimum wage ltl companies are better than the highest paid truckload outfits hands down

yeah, i make excellent money in LTL, but, i am not happy with LTL,( at least the LTL where i am now) throwing more money at that problem isn't going to make me happy.

I am one of those weird guys, the ones who like flatbed work. lol. being out on my own, not being subject too all the co-worker drama. but basically, i miss the road.

As a driver who looks forward to an LTL job one day, I can totally understand what you are saying. The road calls your name. This is a career that gets in your blood for sure.

I found out today that I will be used in one of Averitt's driver recruitment ads in Truck Job Seekers magazine available at a truck stop near you. For a small fee I will autograph your copy with a Sharpie once it hits the news stands. I promise fame won't change me.

I jokingly asked the girl from the recruitment office if they would publish my driver number in the ad so people could use me as their referral and I could then collect the fee. She sat silent and said, "I'll have to ask because we've never been asked to do that before." I told her I was joking but on second thought it's a money making idea.

Delivered in Houston and now I sit at a large adult beverage manufacturer. Taking a load from here to Jackson, MS tonight. Problem is I slept like a friggin' rock last night. Gotta make a nap happen. I guess that is why the good Lord gave us Advil PM. I am just happy they are sending me in the direction of home. Should get there by early Saturday morning I hope. Need to go to the doctor. Have been fighting chest congestion all week. It's not getting better.

Well, keep it between the ditches, drivers. Happy and safe miles to you.

Anybody with Averitt work from Mechanicsburg, Pa. location?? I dont recall ever seeing there facility up there, whats it like being out of that location, good place, good people?? I have been considering them for a while now and it looks like thats where they would put me at being the closest to where I live.
