I usually plan a couple camping trips each year. A trip down to the fl keys. And try to do something eles different each year. I drive locally now. But small company no benefits. I only have one week vacation but I take the time off even when I run out. I also give plenty of notice for my trips.

I have enjoyed reading everyones post. Been out of the driver's seat for almost three years and was beginning to think either giving up or going back to school. That's when I saw posting for Averitt. Filled out the application on line and was called the next day. Just went for the Webcam interview and was offered a job before I got back home!
Really impressed at how they have handled this and look forward to seeing what's around the next curve. If all goes well, will be in Cookeville on Oct. 28th -
hope everything goes well

Congrats, Passing Thru. That is one of the reasons I started this thread was to let drivers who have been out from behind the wheel know that Averitt is a great place to come back on the road with. So glad it has worked out for you.
Man, I had a great weekend. Lots of family time, football and my recliner and I got to know each other again.
Headed out yesterday afternoon finishing a load from Chattanooga to Bessemer, AL. Then picked up Leg 01 of a load at the Birmingham yard and took it to Jackson, MS where I parked for the night. Finished it off to Houston, TX today. Now I am at our Houston yard getting my 10 hour break in.
This past week I got a call from two recruiters from different companies I had applied with back in '09 when I was trying to leave Swift. Apparently they are going through the name banks of previous applicants trying to get butts in the seats. When I told the one fellow I was with Averitt he sighed and said, "Oh." He pretty much tried to sell his company but it would have been back to no APU, no inverters allowed, etc. Not even a chance. I love having the creature comforts in my truck. -
Got a load assignment as soon as the planners showed up to work this morning. I pick up at 1300 in La Porte, TX and head to Dalton, Ga. Barring any issues I'll be able to sleep in my own bed on Thursday night as our Chattanooga yard is my fueling location. Why sleep in the truck when I can head on home and see the family? Gotta love loads like this. Plenty of miles, ample time to get it there and a visit home to boot.

Last night I was in LA about a half hour from the MS border and my chin started trying to hit my chest. I got a bout of tired that I haven't dealt with in a LONG time. I pulled over on an exit ramp, got out and walked around for a bit, then started back and got the same result. Super tired. I don't know why, as I have slept great this week in the truck.
As I crossed the MS border (after having to do a quick drive-thru at the scale house) I pulled into the MS welcome center. To my surprise and delight there were plenty of parking spaces. I was hoping to make it to our Jackson or Meridian yards but this was a good call. It took all of 5-10 minutes for me to fall asleep. I got a good nights rest and will start the journey toward home in another hour when I am legal to roll
One thing I will not do is drive THAT tired. When coffee and some physical activity don't get me back to a perky state it's time to call it a night. No load is worth killing someone over.gimmpy and northbamatrucker Thank this. -
BigMikectn,
Sorry that I did not know you when I first put in application.
I'll catch you for a free meal one day!
Keep the thread going. It speaks volumes as to life on the road and brings back memories. -
