Have been in manual and auto transmission trucks.
Both do the job. The newer autos have been greatly improved.
Freightliner and Volvo both have made autos the base transmission. Paccar is moving that direction as well.
I start with x company this weekend no manual only auto

I notice it more with the Volvo I'm in now vs all of those frieghtliners I drove. Like why don't they just give it a reverse gear that can't go over 2mph or something. I'm not driving 5mph into the dock you ####ing truckD.Tibbitt, UturnGirl and elamigowapo Thank this.

This isn’t 2014.
The latest AMT are great.
Backing is different. But now it’s just as smooth as with a manual.ncmickey, magoo68 and elamigowapo Thank this. -
Got my first ever automatic 1 week ago. 12 spd paccar. WI to GA. Very nice trip Fine transmission for an auto.
Don’t sweat it. If you get a chance to get a manual to learn, great. Might come in handy one day.DC818, Slowmover1 and elamigowapo Thank this. -
Because what if I find a job later down the road that requires manual driving experience.

A auto is much less stressful to learn on .. later if you switch to manual you’ll pick it up in a day or two because you have the other fundamentals down pat.

Auto lets you focus on road.
With 100-million fewer people (thus smarter) it was easier on manual.DenBob and elamigowapo Thank this. -
It could be me...a poor workman complains of his tools. Blah blah blahChinatown Thanks this.

I have no restrictions on my license, went to school and trained with a manual, haven't driven one since, don't want to and won't need to. Don't want a crank starter either. Though I would probably rather have that than a manual transmission.
D.Tibbitt and elamigowapo Thank this.
