That's the way I take it from what I've seen and heard

And since I decided that I didn't want to find out first hand I took care of mine about a month in advance then went straight to the DPS office attached it to the license and renewed my license six months in advance

No excuse. FMCSA registered examiners are all over the country...probably a dozen within any small to moderate sized city, and likely 1 or 2 in even the smallest towns with any kind of health or medical services.

Get it done before it expires, and get the new one to the state within 15 days AND before the old one expires. There is no reason not to. Get stopped on that "1 day" and you'll be placed OOS, company will get dinged for an unqualified driver, and you're likely out of a job. If the company is aware that your medical is expiring, it could possibly cost you your job even if you don't get caught, because it could be an issue during an audit if your logs showed you driving while your medical card was expired.

Find a place to get it done before the old one expires.

Don't matter even if he went anywhere to get it done. It still has to be turned in. But yeah, NOT being home is NOT an excuse.

I personally hand deliver mine. Way too many stories on here about drivers having faith in their companies sending it in. Or mailing it in or emailing it in or faxing it in. Or whatever the case may be.

Yeah, you’d think Crete would have been capable of sending mine in to the BMV, but I drove for a week before I found out they didn’t fax in all the forms and my CDL wasn’t valid.
And I was on hometime when I found out and I took the form to my BMV and they fixed it immediately.
