cool topick..in the begining it was the pure thrill of holdin "all that power"and being way up there over the 4wheelers.like a kid in a candy shop.then you find that the dispatcher is the one causing you the only real stress about it.i had problems w/that for years.still have a problem leaving home to come out to play.have a BIG problem w/DOT.those guys are the scum of the earth.there is no saftey about most of them...its all about bullying and revenue.other than that,i still love driving, now im finding all my own loads and dispatching myself, love that too.when you own the truck, every time you do something to it(big or small) it feels great.git-r-done.still like a kid in a candy store, dispite all the bad sh-t that happens.:yes2557:

Any business you have to deal with Aholes and PITA Sh-t. In my opinion, trucking is NOt at the top for sure. It's how the individual deals with the problems and overcomes them. Don't dwell on the negative, just get past it, move on, and think about the positive.

It's all relative. I worked as an EMT for 7 years. This jobs stress ain't got nothin on that. Driving 50-80 thru a city with lights and sirens dodging traffic while your patient is going down fast in the back. Now that's stressful. Pulling a woman and kids out of a crumpled mass of metal that used to be a car while they are bleeding badly and obvious broken bones all the while telling them they will be ok but not being sure. That's stressful. Watching an old man hold his wife of 50 years while she passes away in his arms and he is crying. That's stressful. Telling a mom you'll do your best for her 7 year old who just got hit by a speeding car but knowing there is nothing you can do but try while he dies. That my friends is stressful.

This job? Ehhh I get moody and grumpy. I cuss and fume in my truck at times. Then I think back to what I did before and instantly calm down. This job has its moments but I got crap in my head that nothing in trucking will ever out stress.

Sent from somewhere out there on the road.

and yet, they are allowed to get a CDL....makes one wonder. an intelligence back ground ought to be done FIRST, pass that, move on to the criminal background, pass that, then the DMV background, pass that, then the drug and alcohol testing, pass that, then the financial aid check, pass that, then and only then would one be allowed to even step foot onto any school property for an interview.

LOL......Trucking today is easier then it used to be. Better roads, nicer trucks, big engines. What you do not understand, being new is that trucking will ruin your health if you are not careful. Trucking is a very stressful job and long hours sitting on your butt does take a toll on your body.

I look back at when I started and getting only a couple of hours sleep per day, running 3 log books, hauling overweight loads so having to run the 2 lanes most of the time, changing blown tires on the truck or trailer and making emergency mechanical repairs, were the norm.

I do miss the old days, but gotta admit, life is sure easier today.

Give it a few years....It is like the "honeymoon" phase of a relationship. It's all cute and fun for the first couple months, before you know it she is crapping like a dockworker with the door open.

I still love the sound of the big old kitty cat firing up in the morning! The sound of the jakes rattling as you come off cabbage on crisp fall morning!

Watching the sunset as I am rolling west on a cold February evening! Driving thru Nebraska and seeing the combines cutting corn on a clear November day!

Watching a storm coming your way as you drive thru Arizona on a hot summer day ! Driving thru Wyoming during a blizzard!

These are a few of the things I still find that I love after 32 years as much as I did my first time I started a truck!!!

I sometimes think that I may be the only truck driver in America that LOVES his job ! I will admit everyday is not all sunshine and rainbows but I have learned to not let anyone drag me down into their miserableness !

I enjoy my life and I hope that everyone can find happiness in theirs as well !!!!

Yeah you are right about that... now that I think about it I only know two people who wanted to be truckers. I also WANTED to be a trucker so I can see all of the cool things around the nation and I got to see them. I remember reading posts here from guys saying how if you are a trucker you only get to drive past cities and nothing more... I guess it is the company you are with since if I want to go out while waiting hours on a load or catch a cab downtown while off duty I can.

I get along great with all of my dispatchers and they love me because I do not screw around and get there before the delivery time.
