I went to a ga community college earlier this year.1450 for everything including dmv fees drug test and road test.1000 was covered by a grant with no income restrictions. So it was 450 out of pocket for everything. 220 hour/6.5 week course. A month after I graduated I received a check for 500 from the state as the remainder of the grant.why would you not get it your cdl if u live in ga?

I got my CDL in Vermont. Paid for by grants. Costed me time to learn and that's it. I couldn't picture signing some contract to enslave me for minimum wage as I starve in Utah at a mega fleet. Lol a lot of people just don't want to do actual research. They just jump on "look they'll pay me to train me and give me a job!"

Or maybe they have no other option. I went to a community college for two semesters the second semester I got sick and flunked out. Now im pretty certain I cannot get a grant/loan for any of that. And that college is the only one in my area that does a CDL program.

How much actual highway time did you get - ours was 10 trips at about 2+ hours for each student each trip ? for a total of about 20 hours . Didn't seem like much, but seems some schools don't even provide that.

We had seven students started class. Two of us had permits when we started.one more got his first week.others couldn't pass permit test.we had one week classroom one week maneuvers then went out with a trainer that had twenty years pulling doubles across the US. Generally averaged about 100 miles apiece per day.I think I wound up with roughly 1600 miles.
Flipflops Thanks this. -
Wow! I spent two weeks taking study tests for permit, and had to watch like 60 videos. Then take computer tests at school. Third week the trainer taught me shifting and double clutching but only up to 5 gears. Then down shifting the following day. Once you know what you're doing you finally go on the road but for like 10 miles. Meanwhile after your turn of driving you practice backing on a different truck aslong as you want. Took 2 months to get the CDL even tho I didn't have problems. Wasn't too happy at the time but I'm glad they did that because I was road ready. The trainer had 30 years expirience and owns the school. He did ice roads in Alaska etc. Taught us a lot. Not just how to get a CDL but actually know what you're doong. 95% of his students pass.
Now I see guys get a CDL within 3 weeks with automatic day cabs and 48 footers. Don't know how to back, hook trailers, slide tandems, etc -
That's the way to do it,get permit before starting school then that's one less headache to worry about and you're ahead of the game.TBonze Thanks this.
