Every student I ever trained and graduated was given a current year laminated RMc atlas. Why not(?)...those students more than paid for an atlas with the miles they drove!

Exactly. Personally I use the moon and the stars to navigate, much like the ancient Polynesians did.

I don't even own a GPS. I do have several maps, from the laminated rand mcnally to maps broke down by county in the states I run the most. Walmart sells these in the state you are in of course has all the county roads and pig trails. Shows low weight roads, narrow bridges etc. I have had several people decline directions to my place cause they have a GPS they all have gotten lost. A couple I barely found lol. Its not hard to find or out of the way either.
The thing about a GPS is you get confident and make decisions on the fly so to speak which will cost you. With a map you get close stop at safe spot, freshen up your directions. Maybe do the smart phone thing and call for final directions. Then drive slower cause you are looking at the tiny little street signs maps sounds safer to me.

    Numb and TruckDuo Thank this.

Are you talking a regular RM map? They make a paper version of the Motor Carrier Atlas. That was my first one. I think I paid $7.99 for it since I had no money as a trainee. I think that one had all the info or is that the one you are saying is missing the front pages? They have several versions. Then I bought my first laminated one a year old at Loves on sale for $10.

Trainees really don't need an Atlas until they get on their own. Use the trainers! :)

One day those atlases are gonna get you in some real trouble, I don't even own an atlas, I have a watch and sextant. Gets me where I need to go every time.

Care to elaborate on how an atlas will get you into trouble?

Your sense of humor needs some lubricant, it's a little rusty.

My bad. I guess it would have been the smart idea to have read your ENTIRE post. Ha ha, touche. I guess the same could be said about them Raider's, being a bit rusty on winning over the years, huh? :biggrin_25520:

Maps, GPS, are tools of the trade. NEED to find your exact destination?! Find a Pizza shop, USPS ( mailman ) UPS / FEDex driver.
Use every tool on your belt. :biggrin_25519:
