Every student I ever trained and graduated was given a current year laminated RMc atlas. Why not(?)...those students more than paid for an atlas with the miles they drove!
I talked a trainee out of buying the Rand McNally atlas today...

I don't even own a GPS. I do have several maps, from the laminated rand mcnally to maps broke down by county in the states I run the most. Walmart sells these in the state you are in of course has all the county roads and pig trails. Shows low weight roads, narrow bridges etc. I have had several people decline directions to my place cause they have a GPS they all have gotten lost. A couple I barely found lol. Its not hard to find or out of the way either.
The thing about a GPS is you get confident and make decisions on the fly so to speak which will cost you. With a map you get close stop at safe spot, freshen up your directions. Maybe do the smart phone thing and call for final directions. Then drive slower cause you are looking at the tiny little street signs maps sounds safer to me. -
Trainees really don't need an Atlas until they get on their own. Use the trainers!wore out Thanks this. -
