Volvo 780. I just saw that the trucking company I have signed with has those lease-purchase plans on my favorite engine. I saw that, and my brain began to swim, I felt weak in the knees. How can I stop myself from impulsively becoming a leaser? I don't want to, but I love that Volvo. I need to push away the temptation, to wait till I have more experience for now, but I wonder...
Question for the new drivers? Your favorite trucks, engines? Deal? Something else? What would be the carrot that would lure you into a lease purchase or buy your own truck? What is the deal maker or breaker?
Me? I'd do it if I was allowed to have both my dogs and a Volvo 780. I would never ask for a day off if that were the case.
Just for fun, Katy

This is too funny, had a girl friend that when a certain type truck went by she too went weak in the knees. Not sure what to call it, maybe obsession? Cause it is not a all girl thing, seen some guys do it too.

Ah Go ahead and jump in. That way in about 6 months to a year you can come back on here and post how the company did you wrong and are a bunch of blank-blanks.

If you want one, wait until you can afford to buy one. DO NOT lease-purchase the truck.
For me, buying a truck has always been my goal. I spent several years as a company driver...figuring out what I liked & didn't like about how each truck was set up in order to come up with some specs so I'd know what I was looking for. I was also looking for a good job...one where I was treated with respect and made good money, that had O/O's who were also treated with respect and made good money. I kept track of everything I was doing with that company truck and figured out what I could afford...then I went truck shopping. Took me a year to find the "right" truck...that was spec'd the way I wanted it at a price within my budget. I made my last payment nearly a year ago, so I must've done something right.
When you rush into things...let your heart lead the way...you tend to make mistakes. The biggest one is leasing/financing a truck from the same place that controls your ability to earn money...especially if the equipment is tied to your employment. They own the truck until you make the last payment...and all they need to do is start shaving off a few miles every week...make you wait a little longer between dispatches...until money gets tight for you. Miss a payment or two and they take the truck back (as opposed to giving you the title) and lease/sell it to someone else for way more than the truck is worth. Look at the contract. How much per week is your truck payment going to be under that lease-purchase deal? You'd be better off getting a bank loan and buying the truck from a dealer. At least by buying it, if the company starts playing games you can take your truck with you when you go elsewhere. Under that lease-purchase BS, that is usually next to impossible to do. If you want to leave before the lease is up, you lose the truck...and some companies will take the opportunity to destroy your credit score, too...which limits your options going forward.OhioHotshot, CondoCruiser, Panhandle flash and 10 others Thank this.
