Are you sure of the file name?

If your on a laptop, this file could belong to the synapitcs touch pad.

It may have been corrupted by a bad shut down or crash.

Check the synaptics web site for a fix.

Yea, if you meant syntphelper.exe then go to Start -> Control Panel and either Add / Remove Programs or Programs and Features (depending on windows version) and remove the Synaptics drivers. You can reinstall new drivers or simply not use them. Windows will see the touchpad and you can still use it, but some features (multi-touch) may not work.

The file you mentioned is for the touchpad mouse and is not likely the problem. Given what you just said about the control panel, you have a virus my friend. Go Google "Malware Bytes" and install and run the thorough scan right away. If you are worried about the source of the MB program then get it off the download section of CNet.com (very reputable.)

It's a hidden digital file in the synaptics pointing device driver. Probably in your C:/Windows/System 32 folder depending on your operating system. Yes, you have a virus. You should go into Add/Remove programs and uninstall and reinstall the driver. Then check the registry for errors.

Like DieselBoss said, there are many softwares to scan and remove the virus. Anti-viruses and spyware removal aren't 100%. Especially if they ain't up to date. The little boogers can hitch a ride in on an email or download. Actually it's a corrupt script written by some evil person. Be careful what you open.

You might find a free removal tool at Spychecker.com, click on the top 25 downloads.
    Stay away from Avast.
