Everett, HE DID fill out an application, just NOT the tax forms, and other paper work, so he was "on file" in fact, i'd venture to guess they already got the results in from the drug screen. its only about a day for the results and all they have to do is call the company to tell them he passed. they could have put a "rush" on his drug screen, because they needed him NOW......

further, from what i am reading, it appears to be a driver leasing company??? if this is so, he can work every day or one day a week......if this is so, and he didn't help them out of a bind when they NEEDED him, they can mess with him now and starve him out........like you, me and others have been saying, he should have just done the run, get paid, and maybe just maybe prove to the company he can be called upon to help them out........that could have lead to MORE work for him........

oh well, he refused because he must have thought orientashun was MORE important than showing "he's da man" to go to......in emergencies.......

when he's sitting at home for days on end, that's when this will come to light........

    this is probably the company:

I drive for UPS Freight and I have seen them hire drivers and send them out before any training or anything. They werent supposed to but they did. The company might just be in a pinch right now.

To all of you saying I should just be grateful I have a job, politely piss off. I am happy to be back to work, I am looking forward to driving again and a definitely appreciate what I have. But I work hard, I do my best, and expect to know little things like company policy and have my taxes filled out before I go to work. Without a W-4, how are taxes for what I get paid for this going to be taken out? I expect the people I work for to be professional about what they do. You may want to go drive for some ragbag outfit with trucks that are two steps away from the bone yard, but I do not.

In the end, I did what I thought was right. I did not #####, I explained I wanted to help out, but I hired on strictly for local driving and since I was expecting a little more time before going out I hadn't finished setting up my child care situation yet (that is done now). I expressed my concerns about not having been to orientation and no paperwork done, and they were ok with that. They instead offered me another run, so despite my reservations, and since it was the job I was hired to do I took it. If there's a flaw in this, I can't see where. They gave a little, I gave a little. We both came out ok.

    End of thread...

this is what our company does. they have an account with motel 6 (its no hilton, but it is a shower, a tv, a bed, and wifi). Nice truck parking, grab some breakfast with the guys you're running with and hit the road.

Good for you!!! If you go in for a local driving job and they immediately try and make you eat the crap sandwich known as OTR then I'm glad you stood your ground. All this BS about "take what they give you" or "be glad you have a job" crap is funny. I'm glad to see there are still a few guys out there that refuse to just play part of the "yes" man. If you would have taken the first run it would have shown the company your a pushover and will take anything. I drive a daycab and I don't sleep in a hotel or across the seats. I SLEEP AT HOME, which is what most local drivers do. Even if he does end up sitting at home a few days a month because he refuses to give in like most of you would have, at least he's doing what he likes instead of living in a truck. If YOU don't look out for YOU no body else will. By the way I'm at home, which is where I'm at every night. Yes weekends too unless I feel motivated to do some extra credit. How's that truckstop life treating you? "Swift party of 4 your shower is available"

Well that goes without saying. And in a perfect world all companies would adhere to the letter and intent of every DOT reg all the time. Sadly, we live in a world that is somewhat less than perfect.

Agreed. But last I checked, there was no shortage of dummies in the world. And there is also no shortage of companies who are willing to tap that abundant supply of dummies and use them to their advantage.
