You did exactly as the programs were intended. You utilized the service, then went out and got a job, and became a contributor, rather than a taker.
Most folks have no problem with those like you who move off the government assistance.
The issue is those who never get off the dole, never intended to, and have kids and grandkids that do the same.
The time is approaching when there will not be enough government money to support them. I guess they will starve, and I don't really care...
I understand why so many bums hang around truck stops now

There's a really nasty case of welfare fraud, that is common here. The twin towns of Hilldale, UT, and Colorado City, AZ are towns right on the border of the two states.
They are almost exclusively populated by FLDS, which is short for Fundimentalist Latter Day Saints. In other words, they are polygamists. The men actually marry their first wife in a legal ceremony. And they support the progeny from that marriage. They then take "spiritual wives." Pretty much as many as they want. The progeny from those unions, are then supported by welfare.
Oh, almost forgot, another of the many cute little dodges they pull, have to do with houses and property tax. It seems there is, (or at least was, may have been changed by now,) a loophole in the tax law that exempts buildings under construction, from having to pay property tax. So they build these huge, multiple family dwellings, and just don't "finish" them. You see houses there that the siding is left off part of the house. So it's considered to be under construction, and tax exempt.
Since almost all Utah politicians, and many Arizona politicians are from polygamist backgrounds, this is acceptable practice. -

Oh yeah, to the best of my knowledge, he is in PC (protective custody,) so he's not to likely to end up a victim.....(I say put a bow on him, throw him into general population and say "Merry Christmas" to the inmates there. -
If you give money to the bums at the truck stop you don't solve their problem, you just create more bums asking for money from the other drivers. The first thing I say to someone walking up to me, before they've said a word, "I'm not giving you any money no matter what your story."
rolls canardly, gokiddogo, TripleSix and 1 other person Thank this.
