I drive a Century now with a Detroit 60. With a nominal weight of around 40,000 in split mountain terrain/flat land, I get just over 5mpg, Bobtail is around 9 to 10 and deadhead w/trailer is close to 7mpg.
I want.. or do I..???

Woody, I would think a manual helps as you can decide which gears are better and so on. My friends two trucks are equip with 3.70 ratios and the third might be too.

gear fast, drive slow
3.70's are too high IMO, and its just that My Opinion
the next truck im lookin at will be in the 3.36 range with a minimum of 13 forward
eaton has a link on thier page that helps with this.....you plug in rear ratio, tranny type and it will tell you what the motor RPMs are gonna be (very close), then you just need to find the "sweet spot" for the motor to get the best mileage outta it........cuising mileage will extremly differ from pullin mileage1pissedoffdriver Thanks this. -
You'll may think I've lost my mind here, but..... if you look at the specs on trucks running 3.36 range, most of them also have the 22.5 tires. The mathematical effect of this is the same as running 24.5s with say a 3.65 gear....1pissedoffdriver Thanks this.
