Well, to be fair, school isn't really for everybody. It certainly wasn't for me.

Thanks. Trucking right out of high school locally seems pretty cool. Should i go to college for anything? Also, would i be making enough money to afford an apartment? I want to move out at 18 lol. I was thinking about getting a job at UPS when i hit 18 and get trucking experience that way. Then eventually, move to local or OTR trucking.
I'm not too stoked about college. I just want to land a job, enjoy it, make good money and live my life you know? I may just do part time college after high school and work full time. It's nice to know college isn't required for making good money and enjoying what you do.

You're correct, but i like planning ahead. Since i do my high schooling online, and have plenty of free time, i see no harm in researching what i would like to do after these two years of highschool are up haha.

UPS right out of high school seems like a pretty good deal. No college required, and i could be making $28.12 an hour, fresh out of high school. Get my apartment, and enjoy my life. There's also the option of going to trade school after high school instead of just some regular college.

Skilled trades are normally in pretty high demand and pay fairly well. A lot of guys don't necessarily want to go that route because some of those fields require a fair amount of physical labor like electricians, plumbers, pipefitters, ironworkers, etc. My father-in-law was an ironworker for the better part of 20 years and he made #### good money before he retired. Too often people are told that the only way to make a good living is by going to college and getting a 4 (or more) year degree and it's simply not the case. Because of that mentality there are a lot of available positions in the various skilled trade fields.

Back to trucking - I hated being OTR for the short time that I did it because I had only been married about 2 years and had a baby and toddler at home. If you're single and want to experience everything that trucking has to offer, then by all means, get out there and do it while you're still young. You can't drive interstate until you're 21 which means that you'll be doing intrastate / local until then. Most of the jobs that fit that bill are things like food service (Sysco, Labatt, etc.) or beverage (Pepsi, Coke, Budweiser, etc.) companies that are very physically demanding. They pay fairly well but can have long hours and are very physically demanding.

Thanks! What would be the process of getting a job driving a food service truck or a beverage? Would they teach me how to drive it or would i have to go to a separate thing for that?

Not that I would have intimate knowledge, but I always assumed that corporate law was where the money was. 7 figure salary including bonuses for an associate. Imagine cashing a bonus check that doubles or even triples your yearly salary.

I know, me either. But, I wish I hadn't quit college with just a yr and a half left. I'd still be doing what I'm doing, just would like to have done it for me.

At least he's interested in his future. Most kids his age these days are more interested in getting likes on Facebook/Instagram.

But I concur with the idea of "not forcing it". In high school, I was big into music, history and physics. I then went into university for five years, and became interested in astronomy (in the realm of physics), religion and language (mainly Japanese). I graduated with a BA in Asian and Religious Studies (which opened two doors: professor in that field or research librarian; both required more education). I then became a security guard for almost three years, moved into the freight industry (as a 5-ton driver and shipper/receiver) and after 2 years moved into trucking.

I wake up every morning, eager to go into work at my regional job and drive my 15 litre CAT-powered Peterbilt around the city for 10-12 hours, go home and see my fiance every night and do it again the next day.

All I can say is, at 16, nobody should "know" where they want to end up. It'll spoil the adventure.
