I have driven a 10, 13, and an auto, the auto was not as bad as all that, but I'm sure glad I have the skill set to drive whatever is needed. Unless it is some disability, I encourage you to learn manual, but keep in mind, EVERY truck is different.
i want to become a truck driver but not if it's manual

Seriously??? Just because you have something set in your mind doesn't mean you should limit yourself. My company, Abilene Motors, is all auto. Took me awhile to get used to it when I switched over, kept slamming my foot to the floor missing the clutch. I like it most of the time. The Volvo was great with the I Shift. The Freightliner lurches in reverse, that's where I miss the clutch.

Thought they were all automatics.....run out of RPM's you "automatically" grab another gear.

Just got a brand new Kw 680 with the I shift 10 speed automatic. I took my first trip to Seattle from Greeley,CO. I tried my best to let the computer do the shifting, but it sucked. Wouldn't pull mole hills. Switched gears to early or to late. Would want to start in 2nd gear. Would get mad when I pushed it up to 3rd gear or would beep when I pushed it to upshift. Well made it pass Cheyenne on the way to Seattle and It was all in Manual mode for the rest of the trip. I'm back in Colorado now and except for the clutch thing when backing up, and how it takes it time when u need to go. It's not all that bad. I just don't see how anybody could keep this thing in drive/automatic mode the whole time. It's been a few years since I drove an automatic and it is going to take me awhile to get use to this, but I would love to have a clutch in to help cushion the blow when you are backing up. Other then that it's like a video game with pushing the up and down button to up or down shift. If this truck wasn't so quiet and smooth. I would probably ask for a truck with a stick. But I'm kinda taking a liking to it. Just see it as a waste of money to buy automatic trucks, and the driver uses it in manual mode 90% of the time.

But in all honesty, if you want your cdl, learn shifting. You are doing yourself and your career a disservice if you skip this.producelove85 Thanks this.
