My next truck will be an auto for that reason, I drive a 13 now and think an auto would be softer on the truck. I've gotten better, but im not the best shifter. I think an auto could outshift me any day.

i learned to dtive a 10 speed OTR,ive driven a 5 & 6 speed b4 but that aint the same.just learn,it takes about 3 days w/ a good trainer and youll be grinding gears w/ the best of 'em.but really its a sense of accomplisment and pride to learn. It may not have been a life defining moment but learn to double clutch first,i still dc,why?because it keeps my legs moving and ''intrested''.sometimes ill float em,mix it up.but learning to shift isnt hard if you listen to your truck, before you know it youll be climbing the hills in WV like a pro.autos are ok if your an old hand or city driver, but a new driver should learn to shift or you may be staring at the unemployment line because you have 10 yrs of driving but that really great job you applied for is a no go because you never learned to drive a stick.dont be foolish.:biggrin_25511:

I've had my automatic a week and backing up to docks is nerve racking. I don't want to plow into it all hard and get whiplash, but if you don't press the gas a little it doesn't want to go. I was getting a trailer washout and had to back up to the little stair case they had. The wash guy was making fun of me because I was going so slow. I miss my clutch. Also if you don't think an automatic will throw you around. Just go trough the mountains and let it do the shifting. You will have it on manual mode in no time. Tested it out on I 70 today. The first pass I think Loveland pass it did what I wanted it to. But on Vail Pass I was trying to drop a gear and it wouldn't let me. It kept me in 8th and I wanted to put it in 7th like I had on Loveland pass, and coast down with the jakes, but in 8th gear I had to use service breaks more since it wouldn't let me shift down and I was in perfect rpm range to shift but all it did was beep, and that 5 more mile of steep grade made me pucker up a little. I will say I miss my jake on the cummins motor I had in my pete. This paccar motor jake is not that strong. Time for bed more mountains more later.

Automatic would have computer glitches plus it is expensive repairs compare to manual. Auto is for #######. You shouldn't be sitting playing video games all ur life.
