I had gotten a cdl back in 06 through A.I.T and went to work for arrow trucking for about 6 months but had to quit due to my father breaking his hip. I could have had someone else care for him but while at arrow me and my DM had issues with hometime and getting stuck in mass. for 6 days. the 6 days off wouldnt have been so bad if i wasnt stuck in a lousy truckstop and DM wouldnt allow me to deadhead to a better location saying she would get me a load out and i had already been out for 4 months with no hometime and the trip that took me to mass my DM promised she had a load there that would head me back west which was a flat out lie or someone else got the load u was to get.
all that added to my frustration with trucking as a new driver. but what broke the camels back was when i was in texas and i got the news about my father so i pleeded with my DM to get me home asap one thing she did do right for me i thought was she got me a load to cali but since i live in AZ i asked her if she could get me a repower (load -xfer) in az said she would do what she could..i get to just north of Tucson and she sent message saying she cant get me repowered so i finished out my trip plan to cali and made some calls.
I get into Phoenix and than she sends me another message saying she can get me a repower. at this time i already had it set in my head to go to cali and told her no ill just take the load she told me i cant and have to stop at a truckstop in phx and wait for the repower so i do somewhat reluctantly the driver shows up 6 hrs later and all i could thank was i would have made it to cali by the time he showed up. on top of all that i was gowing through a divorce with 3 young kids. wasnt a nasty divorce but was cocearned with me bieng away as much as ia was would affect the outcome of custody let alone the impact it would have on my kids.
ok now the part that may have been dumb on my part was telling my DM that i wanted to quit she said ok just give the truck keys to the other driver and they would have some one pick up the truck as i was still pretty heated up i did just that i unloaded my personal stuff gave keys to other driver and said i should keep the other set of keys i had just in case he didnt make it to the terminal in time, and we talked about what just happened he said he didnt blame me for wanting to leave after that ordeal
last part of post deleted for some reason....

So are you saying you have an abandonment on your record? You been out of trucking awhile so they might forget about it, but you will have to do a refresher course or school all over again. Just put out apps and see what they say. Some companies have a little survey on their website to see if you qualify before you even fill out the app. The worse that can be said is no. So just do it and see what happens.

Arrow is gone...no longer in business. DAC reports only go back 7 years, so check to see whats on there
http://www.hireright.com/Consumers-Applicants.aspx It will take awhile to get but if trk abandonment is on there, challenge it and since Arrow went kaput. No one will confirm and it goes off record, if it has not already..... this will take time to do..... So here is plan B, known as Don't ask, Don't tell
Apply for a job and see if they hire you. You may have to do a refresher course since it's been years. And just to be sure, apply to someplace close by just in case they don't run stuff until your there and you have to find your way home from Frozen Pole michigan -
I cant say for sure if it was put on my record as an abandonment as i didnt abandon it i was told to leave it there and x-fer keys to other driver to be picked up later
I am looking into working for Knight,Swift or central ref i need to get a cdl again as i let the Medical expire so yea will need refresher course or re-school again which i dont think i need to do again as i havent forgot what i know/learned have taken a few CDL practice tests recently and passed them -
and glad your no longer in frozen tundra called michigan lol -
First off, order your DAC report. Then you will know what you are dealing with.
Your med card can easily be updated with a quick visit to the DR. Then I suggest you find a good small outfit to work for. This will allow you to avoid an expensive refresher course and 2 months over the road with a trainer. A smaller company will most likely run you as a team for a short amount of time until you have shown you can drive and handle being on the road. I would much rather be paid as team co-driver than pay for a refresher course and then paid as a trainee riding with a trainer.
I went through a similar situation and almost every larger company I talked to said I needed a refresher and I would have to go with a trainer. Well I didn't take a refresher and I didn't go with a trainer. Instead I found a really good smaller company who hired me and had me drive team for a short amount of time. During that time I made really good money! Such good money that I stayed driving team!
Whatever you do, slow down and take the time to do some research and get multiple opinions. Try to steer clear of mega-carriers and their recruiters.
Good luck...Dryver Thanks this. -
@chompi yea but with my litttle time OTR i havent found a small outfit that would take me or know of any in my city Phoenix AZ. The ones i have seen want 1-3 years OTR

I have 7 years experience. My wife is completing CDL school. We wish to train together and work together. We seek a company which has the capacity to train us together.
Else, we are seeking owner-operators who would employ an honest, concientous couple to drive their equipment for them either conventional or expedite. Please email or call jharnage7@aol.com or 229-300-4882.

Paschall Truck Lines will probably hire you. I think the refresher is free if you stay a year & $1500.00 if you leave early. Call and ask.
