I have come to the conclusion that I would like to become a truck driver. The benefits sound great as well as learning a new trade and getting to see the country. I would just like to know,Where should I begin, where is the best school or best place to go, where should I start looking for information on the schools. I had a friend tell me that his son just started at C.R. England. He said his son loved it there, that, at first, he was scared but it was easy after his first day. I just would like to know what is a great school that will pay for the training, maybe get paid training while Im there, have a place for me to stay, and how long will it take until im on the road. Now, I really dont like driving, but have heard that driving a truck is totally different, there are a bunch of idiots out there on the roads, and well, im more scared of them, than being scared of my driving. I really hope I can get great information from most of you PROS!!! I will be looking forward to hearing and talking to you veterans of the roads!

My grandfather was a truck driver, but died before I was born. I know that without trucks america stops! I always let a trucker get in front of me when they need to get over!

CRE, is possibly the worst place to consider as the first step.

However, aside from that, if you don't like to drive, consider another career option. This is a career that is based on a persons ability to drive. If your afraid to drive or deal with the idiots on the road go to McD's and flip burgers.

We want all new people to be successful here. But we also demand that you have your head right first. If your afraid of driving, than this isn't the place for you.

i totally agree with the above statement. this career requires you to drive. you will also drive different times of day if you drive otr. its also hard on the family life due to being gone all the time. anyways good luck on whatever you choose. also..you might want to try swift before you try cre

I'm not afraid of driving, and its not that I hate driving. I have had my drivers licence for 15 years now with only 1 minor accident. Its just sometimes driving can seem boring, so thats what I think of it as. So, what is wrong with CRE?

88.6% of CR England Drivers have unsafe driving demerits according to the FMCSA and CR England employs drivers who primarily graduate from their "schools." Their schools are horrible and don't teach you anything. How they maintain a third party tester status with the State is beyond me. Since January of 2012, CR England's unsafe driving numbers have not dipped below 80%. Just based of CSA data I would stay away from this carrier. They have pretty trucks and nice recruiters...thats about it.

Thank you! I live with my aunt and uncle in Memphis, TN and, well, I HATE IT HERE! I have lived here for 3 years, I moved here from Apopka, Florida. I started working at a car wash and worked so hard they asked me to be assistant manager in less than a year. well I started to go to college for computer networking. It was hard working 45 hours a week and go to college, but I was making good grades so I stuck with it. Well after 8 months of being Assistant manager they enforced a rule of doing background checks and credit checks. I have bad credit and they gave me the choice of quitting or go back to a production person. Since I was in college i went back to a production person. But, because I took the assistant manager job I made $18,800 in 2010 and lost most of my funding (I went from getting a full pell grant of $5,500 for 2 semesters to $1,600 for 2 semesters). So, I have been told that i could make good money if I drove a truck.

I just started working as an unarmed security guard, and well Its low pay but im getting 60 hours a week. I just really want to make a decent living and get the Hell out of this city! Any words of encouragement and a steer in the right direction would be great! I thank you all for listening and for what you do.

Do some research on here there is alot of good folks on here that will give it to you straight. They will tell you what you need to here not what you want to here. The best advice I can give right know is stay away from England and do what you can to pay for schooling on your own. That way you choose where you work and for how long not the other way around. Seek out Chompi, he has good advice for newbies, also look-up Gravdgr, I think he may be over on the Flatbed forum now, but he went through Pam company training and has some good info on compan trining. Good luck and keep us posted.

while company paid training is a way to go, its not the end all be all. There are companies out there that will hire and train, beside the big training companies. Smaller colleges and votechs are great places to get this education as well. TN, is avery good place to get this education, and be close to good lanes to start with.

If you don't like driving or think it's boring this would definatly be the wrong career. That's all we do and do it at all hours of the day or night. You don't need to go to school to get your license or get hired by a carrier. Although i highly recommend going to school to prevent having to learn alot of stuff on the job as I have. I would recommend the swift training program. But don't fall into the trap of believing what the recruiters tell you. Just go in with the mindset that you will get schooled for free and have a halfway decent job for a year.
