I am mindful there are those that might not like these words, I still stand behind them. Trucking is NOT a dream job. Far too many people are buying into this mindset "well if I fail at doing this or that at least I can go be a trucker". Reminds me of this scene from TOPGUN that helps perpetuate this myth!

I hate this part of that movie. I am also not a big fan of the Smokey and the Bandit movies because they romanticize trucking into something it never has been or will be for that matter. Trucking is a job that is critical to the economy of this country. It's not easy to do correctly AND it does not suffer fools well. Almost every bad thing I can think of that's wrong with this industry can be traced back to this influx of people with dreams of $$$ in their eyes that simply become a warm body most doing their year of servitude. Then after a year or two see that this "dream" Job is in reality a nightmare! I have no opinion on the OP of this thread, I just can't stand it when I see people do this.

I got my flameproof underwear on, flame away!

that dude was just a kook tbh, doubt anyone actually romanticizes trucking. The stories from back in the day are certainly cool and a part of American culture tho. My grandfather was a trucker, and his very best friends his whole life were the guys he met driving; they’d run together in packs to be able to take breaks at same time and stuff.. much more tolerable that way if u got your homies with you

Could not have said it better @Moose1958 . See this kind of thing happens often in emergency services too. Folks fall in love and start fantasizing about being the hero and having the comradery just like all the ones that they see on TV or the movies. The reality of being a firefighter-police officer-paramedic-etc is quite a bit different than what is portrayed, just like in trucking.
