These substances are the only ones that the DOT requires to be tested for. Just having them in your body is not a positive. It's having enough analyte's in the body to go past the cutoffs. I know several people over the years that got nailed for testing hot for Codeine. This is actually VERY easy to do. In Georgia, you used to be able to buy cough syrup with a small amount of Codeine in it just by signing the pharmacist's register. I think it was a 5% mixture. Over the years the makers of these testing reagents have gotten them more accurate. Because of this, I tend to not believe people that test positive when they start to blame cold medicines, etc. HOWEVER, CBD oil is something I think drivers should avoid. I keep hearing of drivers testing hot because of it. Right now give the current climate in regard to THC, I highly recommend avoiding ANYTHING that even might contain THC.
One thing about THC, and substances like Hydrocodone is a driver should be given a chance to back out of a pre-employment drug test, even a hair test. It breaks my heart to see these kids being told it's OK to smoke that crap, then get gobsmacked by a DOT drug screen.
While typing this I thought back to something that happened around 2007- 2008. A friend of mine that drove for the same carrier I did, tested positive for if I remember right Morphine. Swore up and down it was a mistake, the MRO even ordered the 2nd sample tested, still came back positive. I was also believing him until I had a chance conversation with his wife. He has been taking some of her narcotic pain killers. Fantastic friend, I have known for years. He lied about that test. After about 6 months he went back to driving but stopped taking her pain meds. I'm not trying to start a fight or debate, I just tend to not believe it when people test positive and blame things.BackwoodsGA and reeferwrencher Thank this. -
