Your brother was lucky or not in a lot of trouble. I have gotten 2 friends out of jail with a carton of Marlboro before, and iirc they were 4 bucks a carton back then.
I also had an uncle whose nephew was married to a Mexican governor down there get his trucks tied up, even though he had all permits from the governor. The police didn't care, he wanted 10 grand and said that money was for him, not the governor. lol

The same one took some businessmen over to Juarez to wine and dine them, they got jacked up and it cost him a grand to get them all out. He just lived 2 miles from the border, but after that time, he always said, if he wanted to act like a mexican, he would get some cheese and sit down next to a cactus on his own property and take a nap. lol Both of these happened back in the early 70's. lol

Yeah man i am not sure the going rates of Mexican official bribery. I just know its standard operating procedure down there.

Knowing my brother, more than likely drunk and disorderly was the reason he had to bribe his way out, and 40.00 was enough at that time.

Down here in the states we pay astronomical prices in blood and money for a military to protect our friend's who border us on the north and south so y'all don't have too. We reserve the right to call our "visitor's" whatever the hell we want to.

I'm out of date but even after NAFTA all CMV in mexico required native drivers...that's why the original outcry when Clinton signed NAFTA allowing the MX carriers cross US authority to allow them to deliver in Canada but we couldn't go the other way...US carriers said it wasn't fair
