Some of us were born with a wind blowing deep inside of us. We just HAVE to be moving. To stay in one place for more than a couple days is like starvation. It almost hurts to not be moving. Like being in a cage.

Once again, I really don't think that was the intention of his post. He was not belittling you, your job, your work ethic, nothing, just stating what he would rather do.

But I'm done with this, he can defend himself, I just thought I would shed a little light.

Yup me to. That is my favorite.

    I was ok with that.

Now I do also,(bulk) I haul gas & diesel. I took this job because in 8 months I can make about what I would make in 12 months doing OTR & I want to take 4 months off every winter and go to Arizona. But I've done van & reefer for about 50% of my career.

Yeah me to, just I'm in Canada. And I love my runs into the mountains. Nobody is putting down any other way to make a living, they're just explaining why they love this type of work & it is a life style.

Sorry Raiderfanatic:biggrin_25511: :biggrin_25515: that I used so much of your post, but it fit so close to what I wanted to say :yes2557: and I'm too lazy [IMG]to type it all out. I just cut out a little that didn't fit.

The only way to make 1500 / week is in the specialized/ heavy haul side of trucking.

Shades, I'm sorry if we come off sometimes as cynical. But you see, we get fed up with folks who come on here with no idea of what trucking (or truckers) is about and then telling us how stupid we are, how we should have a real job and how they could save us all if we weren't so dumb.

Never do they admit that their real job tossed them away like a used kotex, that they've been unemployed for a couple of years because their real job either disappeared or found them redundant and useless. We don't want these folks either.

The other side of the coin is the "starry eyed" folks. They have built up an idea that trucking is some kind of magic passport to a better life than what they've got and they hate it when we try to tell them the truth.

It gets to the point that you don't even try.

I just made my first year driveing local for a grocery warehouse.
I average 60hrs a week,my wife is a RN and i made $1200 more for the year than she did.
In my area we do pretty good but i am sure there are plenty doing a lot better than us in New York ,but in bug tussle(lol) we have a four bedroom brick home with a two car garage.
And after watching the HGC on tv with houses not as good as ours for $450,000 i am glad i am where i am at.
We have a 2001 ford expeidition with 89,000 miles and my ford ranger 2002 with 102,000 and the kids eat good and get pretty much what they want.
Does my wife have a 10 cariot(spelling) no do i have a 70 in tv,no but we are happy.
I like to drive so unless i get smart as a DR and do surgerys it will have to do.

But to the person that makes that much working at a store ,don't hold your breath working for a otr company.
At least your first few years.
But money isn't everything but it sure the hell helps out a whole bunch imop!:biggrin_25515:

DUDE! I was going to chime in here in your thread, but frankly, with your attitude, I could care less WHAT happens to you. Nobody was pulling your chain here, so take your attitude and go back to your C store.

Shades of Pale, relax, I wasn't ragging on you for your job or lifestyle. YOU asked why a truck driver would be a truck driver if he/she wasn't making at least $1500 a week and only getting home ocassionally and not having any "me" time as you put it. I said, in my opinion, it's not the $$ then, is it? It's the lifestyle. While nice paychecks are great, I think if you ask most people, they will say job happiness is more important than $$. I don't think more $$ can compensate for an un-happy employee. Since we spend most time at our jobs, do you think we should be happy ?

So, to explain it a little better, I wouldn't work at a C-store or any job dealing with the general public all day long, simply because I can't deal with the general public. But, that's just me. I admire clerks and cashiers that do deal with the general public. Just as there are people that admire truck drivers for being able to deal with what we have to deal with in our jobs. We hear it all the time, "How do you guys drive those big trucks in traffic and make those turns etc?"

So, if you come on a public forum, you have to expect feedback from a variety of personalities. Again, relax, enjoy your job/lifestyle/family and we'll enjoy ours. There was never an intention to be rude.......
