From what I've read, if you go to a company-sponsored school, you probably won't last either.

Giving all these reasons why option A is better than option B when they haven't even demonstrated that this is in fact the the case isn't very persuasive. Real data would be a whole lot more useful than all the unsupported arguments and anecdotes.

I assume there have been longitudinal studies of driver careers that address whether there's a correlation between the type of training and how long a driver lasts, and other measures of success, but I haven't found them. I tried Googling and found a bunch of paywalls, and some articles about driver retention related to pay and working conditions, but nothing that specifically relates to private vs. community college vs. company-sponsored producing better outcomes.

I don’t quit things. I’ve been with the same company for 8 years, and it has sucked. Ready to switch industries completely. As long as I’m able to get in, I’ll stick.

Strange thing to say as I'm on the cusp of going local...but I like the idea of coast to coast loads. I got thrown a few bones early on with trips to the west coast but ultimately became more regional over time. If I end up ever wanting to go back OTR I would consider something that goes coast to coast on the regular.
