I log off duty for my 30 at one of my stops everyday. If someone else is waiting for the dock, I pull out, and clear so they can dock, before doing my 57 QC functions that the company mandates at every stop.
I don't get into 5th or 6th gear clearing the dock, and go a pretty good distance, and I'm still in ' Off Duty '.
You must have been moving pretty fast to get that thing to click back over to ' Driving.'

I have called my log department several time to have them fix this issue. Im a bulk pneumatic and tanker guy. So once I hit the gate I log on-duty as we get hourly for deliveries. Then off to the unloading/spot I go and some times its more then 3/4's of a mile around their property and once my QC passed that it kicks to driving from the time I started moving. Not sure how it all works out but the log guys fix it up and I just approve it at the end of the day.

The regulations do, though. The FMCSA has no authority on private property. They require you log your time driving on private property in order to ensure you are in compliance with their HOS if/when you enter onto a public road. That's just like the 14 hour rule...they couldn't care less how long you work on line 4, as long as you take a 10 hour break before driving again and haven't exceeded 70 hours for the week when you do get back behind the wheel.

If the company has a stricter policy, that's a company issue. As far as the federal regulations are concerned, though, you can't violate the HOS where the HOS aren't enforceable...and on private property, they just aren't enforceable.

I could use my experience and knowledge to drive at a major auction house on truck sale days, however tiny problems aka insurance coverage would determine if I will work there or not.

DOT hereby sentences you to a 1 year prison term in a Freightshaker Crapcadia with that Werner trainer that craps himself.

I sentence you to a trainer that weeps uncontrollably shaking with stink of fear at the slightest thought of conflict with the Law. =)

Have a great day Sir. Nothing but respect.

You made a mistake. You never log off Duty. You log sleeper. Then you drive slowly.

Calling your log department is the correct answer. They will give you hell as you are new but the logs are yours not theirs. They can edit your logs and will. You are allowed to complete a run if it doesn't go over the 14. Tell them there was traffic backed up due to an accident.

Or my favorite, you had to move to a different park of the parking lot because the lizards were prettier from a distance.

Did your Qualcomm actually log you on the drive line? With mine, if the wheels turn at all while out of hours all the bells and whistles go off as described. But unless I actually drive for more than 5 minutes or over a certain distance that I'm pretty sure is calculated with a roll of dice, it doesn't log it. And there's definitely been times when I'm parked like a ####### at an OC when all the spots are taken and move the truck to a spot when one opens up.. The thing is evil sounding. Red warning lights. Blinking. And loud as hell "you're out of hours of service driving time"... But no problem since I don't drive far enough for it to log.

However, there was a time once when I got to a customer and had to drive around their property a few times in order to get the d/h done (stupid "one way around the building" rules) and it kicked me on the drive line. And it kicked me on there hard, for almost an hour. I called to get it changed and was told "there's nothing we can do to change the drive line no matter the circumstances"

SMH.... Throw a faraday bag over the qualcomm's send/reciever unit. Should then be able to get from this part of the lot to that part of the lot without the truck giving you a migraine that will last three days....

This is nuts from my perspective. What has the industry gotten itself into? I'll keep the paper logs thank you very much.
