WOW - you & George Burns!!! BUT - that "does not" come across as good advice DUE TO the fact that "your genetic make-up" is far different then the average American! Not saying that 'all' people can be running thru life & have no fear - 'come-what-may' or they can live well by living a 'strict or harsh' regiment but saying for many, many others THAT junk that you swill can & could kill thousands!

I am one of the many that lives carefully out here & with time (I was in college for 2 1/2 yrs & had a bad injury due to dumb team person) will lose the rest of the weight I had gained.

Don't make it a New Years resolution. Make it a lifestyle change or you will fail miserably. Take small steps and have achievable goals. Everybody wants to start off with a bang and when the high expectations cannot be achieved they will give up quickly and fall back into the old habits.

I buy all my food and eat three meals a day in the truck. I might have a soda here and there, but I drink the diet green tea from Lipton or Costco. Also I buy gallon jugs of water and add the little Crystal light lemonade packages for flavor. I guess you will have to start looking at sugar and carbs on the labels. Everything is full of sugar these days and it is hard to stay away from all the bad stuff.

Also if you end up with gravings have some of the stuff you are not trying to eat. I think trying to stay away from all the bad foods will make you fail and give up. I buy a candy bar or have some chocolate, but it is all in moderation. I have found that if you need a sugar fix might as well get something for it instead of binch eating on everything else that comes your way. Also portion control is a big one. Look at the packaging for serving size and you will be surprised.

I have struggled with my weight all of my adult life and have to pretty much work on not to turn into the Michelin man. I eat when I am bored and love my Alaska trips since it is just driving and sleeping. Find healthy snacks you like that satisfy your cravings, but again watch out for the sugar in those as well.

Good luck with your life style changes and for gods sake give up those cancer sticks. :biggrin_25516:

Bad habits? Don't change anything; your body might go into shock!
As TruckingWolf posted, "your genetic make-up" means a lot. Read about a guy that died at around 95 and all he ate, 3 meals a day, was sausage & pancakes & coffee. My mothers cousin died at 103 and ate junk food and drank an 8 oz. glass of whiskey every day. A retired Navy guy in England was about 106 and all he did was sit on the patio at the old folks home and drink whiskey and chain smoke. The average everyday person can't get away with that. Some have to sacrifice the good times to squeeze a few more years in.

ABSOLUTELY GREAT advice!! YES - always start with small changes like less fat, sugar, & salt! Few sodas, more water with LEMON slices in them (this is an actual Detox for your body), actual 100% non sweetened juices (cranberry is great for kidneys), green tea or other health teas with little to no sugar (I drink mine now NO sweet just lemon or LIME slices)! I drink many of the "Bolthouse or Naked" juices now sold at MANY truck stops (check the experation dates because I have seen too many with BAD dates. Used to be when I started drinking these the expire date WAS 3 months LATER & not a week away - YES I taste the difference!)

Try "new" foods like fruit cup yogurts with healthy granola (many cheap ones are HIGH fats & sugars). Eat baked foods or PLAN to stop & eat at health restaurants but BUYING is the absolute best for getting "snack foods." Like mixed nuts, granola bars, fruit (can be cut up BEFORE you drive & placed in Ziploc bags [take a gallon of water & add 2 or 3 crushed 1000mg Vit C tabs - this Vitamin IS water soluble & will not build up in your body] rinse your cut fruit to 'prevent' it from turning brown or discolored besides DRINK this to ward off colds & ills [vitamin C helps repair us & keeps our immunity in check]), good LOW-salt beef jerky, dark chocolate covered raisins, etc, etc. Eating 70% cocoa or higher actually is "good" for you & it helps stem off some of your junk cravings in time, like fruit or chocolate chip granola bars!

ALL OF THIS is not "rocket science" it is just life style changes that we CAN learn instead of our old bad habits! IT also takes us getting OUT of our "lazy" habits of wasting time & sitting & doing nothing! BY the way - OUR TRUCKS ARE BUILT for exercise if you stretch your imagination & look! In the bunk - I do leg stretches or hiney lifts, & for the upper bunk I use it to do arm curls leaning in & away from the bunk using my own body weight, sit-ups in my driver seat while waiting for Ld & UnLd, or I put bouncey music on & try to "shake" my truck (muaahahahahaha), & using the outter parts of your truck too, walking is EASY breezy while I am "stuck" waiting at a place - I go explore some of the unique properties that I sit on (yes within reason of WHO they are & not mucking up THEIR crap), etc, etc

NO real reason to be "over" out here except it is TOO easy to be lazy in this industry! We are our own worst enemies people - truth!

(*by the way dude - you & others are SO FUNNY! - "I have struggled with my weight all of my adult life and have to pretty much work on not to turn into the *Michelin man."*)

I should have elaborated on the vitamix. It is a great way to eat healthy, as it encourages more "raw" foods. In a vitamix, you can quickly make some pretty great tasting food that is healthy: smoothies, homemade sauces, hummus, salsa, soups, and even ice cream.

Clean up I think would be well suited to a trucks limitations. Fill up half way with water, add 2-3 drops of dishsoap, run for 30 seconds and rinse out.

To start off my healthy eating, I'm going to make tortilla soup in the Vitamix for lunch. Start off with a jug full of veggies and 3-4 minutes later you have steaming delicious soup. In the last 10 seconds or so I add some black beans and chicken breast to add some texture.

ONE CRITICAL POINT WAS LOST HERE EVERYONE - poor/lack of PROPER SLEEP does play *hugely* into our poor health!!!

Also - WE ARE a Nation of growing 'diabetics' due to wearing down our "motors - our engines" with SO MANY abuses! Being a "Type II" diabetic "IS" reversible for most (LOSE weight, exercise, eat good, healthy foods, etc) BUT once the engines breaks completely - you are permanent "Type I" & then you will be forced to change or die!!

I was working with a physician earlier this year and he was always on my case about soda. He says that besides smoking, soda is the single worst thing people intake. He suggested that I try and kick the habit with carbonated water. I started buying that carbonated water from trader joe's. It doesn't have anything artificial in it and it did the trick. Turns out the carbonation with a slight lemon or lime flavor was able to help me kick the soda.

Since then, I've got one of those soda streams home carbonation units. I flavor each jug of water with about 10 drops of lime and lemon. I'm totally off soda now and this is all I drink except for maybe an occasional cup of coffee or a glass of red wine. Hope this helps.
