Happened to me on first day at first gig. Dude in a pickup rear ended a 18 wheeler at highway speed right in front of me. I was gonna stop but trainer said do not stop so I didnt.
I witnessed a crash and just kept going. Should I have stopped?

The way people on here talk on other threads it seems most wouldn't have a problem pulling out a firearm on an active shooter and getting involved. Yet stopping to help out someone potentially in need is a huge inconvienience.

I would have called and reported the accident, the call would clear my conscience but being in a commercial vehicle we cannot just pull over safely and be out of the way. So it’s best just to get out of there but know help is on the way.

So if I'm driving around in the middle of the night on a quiet empty Hwy and I see someone have an accident according to most of you I should just drive right by and not even make a phone call? Yall make me sick

I saw a crash happen last year on the Interstate and by the time I could have gotten pulled over and safely parked, there were 10 cars that had already stopped. I kept going. However, if I came upon or saw a accident happen with no other traffic around, I would have to stop.

getting sued for helping somebody , sounds like the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard and is not likely to ever happen, with the laws that protect from that... some need to educate themselves. and if they ever find themselves in a wreck on a road with not much traffic, they will be grateful for someone coming to their aid out of the goodness of their heart... I know I sure was grateful for the help and people coming to my rescue when I wrecked my truck last year...Swine hauler, InTooDeep, jamespmack and 8 others Thank this. -
Common sense [UN-common sense?] has to prevail.
Remote locations and no immediate help you should park safely and render some assistance.
Urban locations your tractor trailer is a potential roadblock and the possibility of multiple others rendering assistance quickly means travel on.
Giving one's ID to the investigating LEO can have long term effects as most states have a 2 year statute of limitations and the law suits appear around 20 months after the accident.
I witnessed an accident from the front gate of a facility I managed on West Side Avenue in North Bergen, NJ when a bobtail locks and starts sliding trying to avoid an auto stopping to turn left into one of the business driveways. After the tandem fishtailed into the oncoming traffic, the driver managed to correct it, leaving the LF corner of the tractor still over the yellow line as an oncoming little Nissan plows under the bumper crushing itself until stopped by the steering tire.
I joined the crowd watching the responders using 'Jaws' to tear the auto apart peeling the steering wheel and dash off the driver. I gave my card to the officer saying I saw the whole incident.
Almost 2 years later I'm contacted by an investigator from one of the legal firms involved. We meet in the driver's room at Krajack and he gives me the PD report to review. I look and tell him that the report is incorrect and describe what occurred.
West Side avenue is a 4 lane straight road with mostly warehouses and other businesses along each side that traffic treated like a drag strip.
I was standing there looking at how much grass we needed to mow in order to see well enough to exit with our autos. Our trucks could see over the growing grass but the ladies in the office were complaining that soon they wouldn't be able to see to leave. I had a ring side seat.
I was contacted about a deposition but never called after someone decided that the best option would be to settle with the other party.Feedman, Another Canadian driver and JoeyJunk Thank this. -
I stopped in Nashville once. Guy sped past me on the shoulder of an exit. Rolled his car around the bend. Ejected one of his two unrestrained kids. I was interviewed by police but told them later to remove me as a witness because the more I thought about it there was one thing I wasn’t sure about.
Weeks later the mother of the idiot driver ended up with my phone number and called me. I shut her down real quick.
Many people stopped. Even a nurse. I am not a nurse. Never been trained to do anything besides CPR. And maybe hold pressure on a bad bleeding wound. So what I am willing to offer will be based on the situation and location.Opus and Another Canadian driver Thank this.
