I am a new freight broker agent and I would like to know what you feel is important for a broker to do that would make you want to work with them? There are some things like good rates, accurate directions that are a given - but what has a broker done for you that was unusual but made a good impression on you?
Thanks for your info!!!!
I would like your opinion...

Pay promptly and accurately....#1.
-
Yes, I agree! As new O/O's here
#1 is don't rip us off! Pay on time, no excuses.
#2 is keep the MT miles as low as possible.
#3 Work with us to stay legal
#4 Communication / directions, pay for load, fuel surcharge, etc. -
And.....
Pay actual miles, not air miles or one lane dirt road miles.
Always check if delivery appointment is necessary and advise driver.
DON'T LIE! Be honest with drivers. You will find there is a lot of good people out here.
Just remember, you are in business just as we are. Your reputation will reflect your actions. -
like everyone else pay for logical miles.
detention time is a big one. would you like to be stuck on the phone for 8 hrs and not get paid? no diff compared to us settin some place waiting to load of unload.
Alot of brokers use caller id to get drivers cell phone numbers. Just ask me for it, most of the time i don't mind if you call. But don't harrass me. If you want I will call to check in everyday.
some broker like to keep part of if not all the fuel surcharge. Come on were the ones buying the fuel pass it on.
tarp charges would be nice to, it alot of work to tarp some of these loads. -
A common complaint I've heard from ex-O/O (who eventually sold their equipment out of frustration, and went back to being a company driver), are instances of brokers claiming load pays (hypothetically) $1,000; then O/O learns from another source (the shipper or consignee) the load actually pays $1,200 (or more). O/O comes to a sad realization broker had been lying and skimming more than his 10% share !!! O/O wonders to himself "how long had he been skimming off more than what he claims, since I first started doing business with him XX years ago ?!?!? "
It would give O/O peace of mind if they get a copy of pay statement from consignor/consignee who paid freight bill !! This would show proof of good faith to substantiate verbal claims that broker had dealt fairly and accurately with O/O. -
don't stiff us on the fsc. that belongs to the one paying the fuel.
-
Whether or not he reads this I'll never know, but here goes anyway.
Please do company drivers a favor, and don't put "Do not hold" orders on your LTL shipments, like QWE Logistics does all the time. This causes big problems when the consignee is a residential customer. These people need to contacted before delivery. -
Like most above:
Pay us in a timely fashion.
Don't lie to us.
Most of us don't need a Babysitter.
(Don't call me # 6:00 AM Eastern, when I run
on Mtn Time-I'll gladly make a check call.)
And with lots of loads, there is detention time...
Set the delivery appointments up AFTER we get loaded.
Thanks For Asking!
