The sad thing about this is that the driver likely fall asleep and just two miles before the accident was a closed California rest area. That rest area could have saved the 7 year old boys life, we may never know.

That's not the way I read it. There were two people in each truck. The passenger in the truck that struck the parked Walmart van died.

When you see drivers drifting three feet over the line onto the shoulder for no apparent reason you can see why accidents like this happen.

I call this Yankee Doodle Steering. It's unbelievable how frequently I see the total inability for truck drivers to maintain lane control. If I pass them there are quite a few times I see them distracted with a phone or greasy food, but most often they aren't distracted. They simply have extremely poor steering habits: one hand on the wheel and a fairly common habit of bracing their left hand at the top of the door. They are one steer blowout from learning they aren't as in control as they think they are.

The news reports are confusing. It appears three in the CRE(I think) and two in the truck that collided. The driver of the second is in critical care. The minor in that truck died. Two of the 3 in the CRE truck got sent to hospital.
CRE will team train with 3 drivers in the truck or even train two separate drivers with one mentor. Seeing three climb out of a CRE truck is nothing new.Lepton1 Thanks this. -
