be warned, i was in Kville 2 days ago, and i stayed at my moms overnight. she lives off the 373 Campbell Station Road exit. my delivery was in loudon TN, exit 72 about 15 minutes from the 75/40 split. i got up that morning, went to the T/A and picked up my trailer and figured id sneak across the scales without making a logbook entry so my clock wouldn't start.
i get just past the 373 exit headed towards the scales, and heard someone screaming on the radio about them checking paperwork and logs. so i stopped really fast and fixed the book, and sure enough, every time the scaled side was free, a truck was getting pulled in to weigh and a state trooper was standing right there at the driver door asking for paperwork. i got bypassed, but as a notice to everyone who may be going that way, be ready.
the east/north scale was hit but lightening a while back i heard and it has been closed for several weeks and the other side has been running wide open ever since.
lets not get into the discussion over the starting the logbook, that is my choice to do that, and yes it is not the right thing to do, but we all know what needs to be done in order for each of us to make money.

I frequent them scales alot. One trick I use is to let alot of trucks pass you if you can. Then hopefully the ramp is full where you can bypass. Being a major truck route, it's easy to do.
There's a little Kangaroo truck stop down at the Hwy 68 Sweetwater exit 60, go west 1/4 mile on the left. You can drop a trailer there if you are delivering in that area. Might of been out of your way a little, but it avoids the scales. Exit 373? you can take Hwy 411 back towards Loudon and avoid going across the scales. Alot of redlights though. -
Sounds like random paper checks that are done at any scale house in the Country.... No reason to be warned about it. They all do it!

Gotta love PrePass
Haven't been pulled into that scalehouse in years. -
OK, Folks, the moral of the story is BE PREPARED, AT ALL TIMES ! But also, be adventuresome too. Live life on the edge, be daring, take risks.....That's trucking.

I just draw a line horizontally like I'm in the sleeper and flag whatever city I left from and just dont draw a line down to driving. If the cop is at the scale you can quickly draw that vertical line down to driving and you are in good shape. Thats what I do for a situation like that. I'm not saying its right, but I should be able to drive the truck a short distance without the 14 hour clock starting. I had a receiver one time kick me out of their parking lot. What are you supposed to do? The 14 hour rule is bs so I just do what I gotta do. Hoping these new logbook rules will be more straightforward like 12 hours driving in a 24 hour period. That is more reasonable.
Now there is a rule for bobtailing. Think you log off duty. Its called personal conveyance. You can roam around without logging driving. -
the T/A at the 374 still allows drivers to drop the trailers as long as you go in and sign the book. and my company is small, less than 50 tractors. no prepass or tollpass in any of the trucks.
the logbook rule about the 14 is stupid. they should have never changed it from allowing the split driving. drive for 5, sleep for 5, drive for 6 more. that places many people out there who are sleepy and should not be driving in my opinion. but who are we to argue about the laws anyway? lol
