and thus the reason they are cracking down, writing more and more tickets, and more and more calls from the locals in Vail for 35 mph speed limit for trucks, and wanting Vail PD/Summit S.O. to monitor it 24/7.

That's beautiful country, really like Colorado interstate and backroads.
The drive between Leadville and Eagle is very nice done it few times, Rifle to Bonanza Ut also nice -
Hwy 24 leadville to 70 reminds me off the Wiley Coyote cartoon. Where he is all-ways falling off the cliff. You would get a few minutes to think about it on the way down.Ougigoug Thanks this.

Try Wolf Creek pass if you get a chance. Those switchbacks will get your attention for sure.
-
Yes they will, but if you're not real heavy it sure is a pretty drive in the summertime.

I prefer 550 (Molas, Coal Bank and Red Mtn), that's how we separate the truck drivers from the steering wheel holders. -
It figures that the local up there would complain about the trucks going fast down the hills but considering how fast they go down them (in cars) I don't think that they have much room to talk.
For the past 8 years my company sends me out to go up and down those mountains in the winter time. The first two years I was very cautious about it and didn't want to drive with chains on. Then something happened to me, they sent me to Alaska in the middle of the winter. Now Colorado in the winter doesn't seem to be such a big deal to me. I got some very nice pictures from going over Loveland in the winter time. -
Yup, got lit up coming up to the tunnel heading eb, was an inch over, made me take 6, #### thing still had snowpack in places.

When I was a rookie I saw the signs saying "all Hazmat pull over" or whatever it says there before the Eisenhower. I did but didn't know what to do and nobody said anything so I just left and went through the tunnel. Never heard a word from anyone. But since then I've gotten a bit smarter and take 6 around.

this morning, sitting at Ward Rd and I-70, was a prime example of why you don't speed down mountains. A "crisp" white, great dane reefer sitting on the right shoulder, the fire dept. was still addressing the crisp part, state patrol was addressing the driver. That was at 3:30 am, when I came back through about 2:45 pm, the trailer was gone, two rolloffs were being hauled away with what looked like bags of flower, and the tow company was loading the last of the trailer parts onto a low boy.
