sit tight, its the best thing to do. As others have said. Wait it out, no load is worth your life, or a ruined tractor.

YOU, Are the captain of the ship............
dont EVER let a dispatcher...Freight Broker or Customer DEMAND you drive in poor conditions.....Your Job Will never be in jeopardy
Times were different years ago....We took many chances..Today,With the rates and lawsuits the way they are.....I just assume sit or Go home till the weasther breaks...
Last week of December I loaded up in Chicago to deliver in Hartford,CT..(900 miles)... it took me 6 days..Why? After I loaded I went home (chicago) waited out the first storm....Then Left before the 2nd storm came (The Big one)
Same with my return load....I shot over to Auburn,NY picked up..Waited out the 2nd storm that followed me out east...Then traveled back to Chicago to deliver..That took 4 days.(630 miles)
Always THINK when you guys are in poor weather....You are not impressing anyone by driving in snow and iceTonythetruckerdude, Semi-Truculent Hamish and HotH2o Thank this. -
Rub your nuts and grab your hat; you shut down when you feel it's necessary. When I started with FFE, it was getting close to winter. I thought I'd made it through the wort of winter when I grabbed a load from Jersey to SLC. I pulled the load out, dropped it at the receiver and then got a new load; due to go across i-80 which had just reopened after a horrible blizzard.
I called the planner, Mr.Cavin-B in Lancaster TX and kindly notified him I was not comfortable crossing Donner after it had just reopened not even two hours ago.
Man was he pissed! I never got another good load off him, which was a shame because we had a great working relationship; but you know what? I'm alive, I got a load out of Logan Utah which was horribly dangerous as well, I got the hell out of the snow and I managed to make it past that situation.
So, you might suffer, but if you throw that truck in a ditch- how much are you gonna suffer? -
Stay put... catch up on paperwork, call home, read a book...
not worth your life, or anyone elses...Tonythetruckerdude Thanks this. -
It doesn't sound like a good place to be stopped though. -
Well if it were me I would be throwing on the old chains and getting the job done. But sounds like you don't have chains or are one of them drivers who won't use them. So sit and read a book till the ice and snow melts or the plows come to throw a bit of sand.
double yellow Thanks this. -
