As we all know winter is approaching. I am not a truck driver myself, but I am looking to get some answers from some drivers. Is Ice/Snow on top of your trailer a problem? How frequent is this problem? How much are you spending to solve this problem?
Any additional anyformation/conversation about the issue would be great too!

Yes it can be an issue, more so if there is a good pile of snow, melts a bit to form an ice sheet and freezes again. Then it comes off the roof in a 500 pound piece of ice. Most larger companies have a roof sweeper you drive under, or a portable walkway and long push shovels. You are responsible legally for everything on or in your trailer. If it causes a wreck whether it’s a tire or snow, it’s your ###.

Most roofs on top of van trailers are too flimsy to walk on, you may fall through. plus Occupational Health and Safety don’t want you up there.
Some kind of cat walk is required.BigHossVolvo, alds, D.Tibbitt and 1 other person Thank this. -

back before any such "clearing laws" came into effect "down here", i had no worries about snow on the top of my trailers.
after the laws became more and more prevalent in many states, i had no worries about the snow on top of my trailers.
meaning, it'd have been a cold day in hell, before i ever gave it a thought, much less did anything about the dang snow.
if a company wanted the snow off the roofs? make them buy the snow blade for us to drive under.
if the DOT and the laws wanted us to remove the snow? make them set up snow blades at every single DOT scale house and remove the snow for free, or a very small nominal fee, either pay by cash or EZ PASS.
it's one darned thing to make up laws, it's another to come up with solutions to provide an answer.
finally, i looked at it this way, it ain't my job to fix the truck, to wash the truck, to pay for tolls, lumpers, or anything, but DRIVE the truck.magoo68, uncleal13, TheLoadOut and 1 other person Thank this. -
